Can't set objectives in PBEM

Post by laska2k8 »

it seems that PO mode isn't functioning in PBEM game.

I tried to use the PO as in solitaire games but the interface never react.

Maybe a option to activate ?

I would second that. The PO Assist mode can be used to play as a true operational commander. You give orders to your formations and it is up to them how to interpret them. The PO will often do something you don't expect but then again so do subordinate commanders. I see no reason why PBEM players should not be allowed to explore the possibilities.

Best wishes,
Steve

I may try to add it for the next patch, but that feature was added late in the game and there has got to be an option to not allow it during a game.

The only cheats that Elmer has right now that I know of are...

He has multiple tries at overruns, but at 100% instead of the 70-130% that people have.

He has a general understanding of the strengths in a region that the uses to set his stance.

He does have an understanding of the strengths of unknown units, although he generally isn't smart enough to target the weakest units. It does help him to not target units that he can't hurt, although he still does sometimes bring too much force into an attack.

The first one is there because he doesn't have an overall plan, so he doesn't know when to try for overruns proactively.

The second is a minor cheat to try to minimize the work required to add tracks.i don't consider it a big deal.

The last one is a bigger issue. Even though he doesn't know how to use it right now, knowing the exact strengths is a definite cheat.

Honestly, though, the big reason is that I didn't realize that there was a demand for it. I'll see about adding in the capability to allow Elmer assist during a pbem game. I like playing some scenarios at the higher level, but I wasn't sure how many other people would.

Ralph,

Yes I forgot about Elmer cheating but then if both players have an agreement to allow PO Assist and play as true theatre commanders then the cheats would even themselves out. We don't want to make Elmer any weaker.

I think the PO Asssist facility has a lot of potential both for players and designers. For players it offers a whole new way commanding our armies and one that is more in keeping with the operational view of the battlefield.

I though that the assist facility was a great deal to less concentrate on moving the units and take more care to the combat phase.
Could be a good idea let the PO move only the units without ordering assaults, this is a obvious benefit also for large scenarios.

Max,
I can see three options that might make sense, although I'm not sure I can do them easily
PO Assist Stances - This would set the stances only (Limited, Normal, Full) and possibly Dig in/Local reserve.
PO Assist Movement - This would move only and not set up the combats.
PO Assist Only - The means that you could not do individual control, only group control. (I'm not sure this will make it, it might have to be an honor thing)
