Losheim Gap - Supply?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Losheim Gap - Supply?

Post by vj531 »

Having good fun playing the Losheim Gap from the German side.
Not doing too bad, but one of things I'm particularly focused on and finding 'tricky' is supply. Now I know this is a huge part of BftB but if any gamer has any tips and advice on keeping the guys at the sharp end fed and watered, I would be interested?

Really enjoying this scenario

[8D]Is there anybody around?

You shouldn't be having to many issues with basics supply until maybe later in the scenario. What do your Regimental and Division stocks look like?

As the battle wears on you may want to feed the line Bn's more, and upper echelon/rear area (bases and regt/div/corps HQ's) less by adjusting the supply allocation settings accordingly for basic supply when you give commands. Move your Regt bases closer to the front, or at least bring them North/West of the Schnee Eifel in case the resupply is being interdicted by the US troops dug in there.

Thx for your reply! Until the last few weeks I have hardly touched the supply side of the game and left supply well alone to look after its self [&:]. But I have such a need for Arty resupply in this game I started to open this pandoras box. I will look at what you have kindly written and report back ASAP.

This game do with a really good old fashioned advanced hints & tips book, they were all the rage in the early nineties.

Failed again to get the 3 bridgeheads in the correct timescale. Back to the drawing board with scenario!

Its a real tough one!

I looked to move HQ's North/West Schnee Eifel but still to hairy in the 3rd day! Way behind schedule!

Historically the Germans shot off most of their reserve Corps and Army artillery stocks on the opening barrage. The opening artillery supply situation for these O-Tag scenarios attempts to reflect this condition.

The effects of the barrage is simulated by the excruciating orders delay that the US suffers on the first day.

one thing you can do: group your arty together into one or more fire groups, and give them a defend order, but turn the ammo setting for them all the way up.

I have split the main corp. arty into two groups and as the supply take about 8 hours to arrive from the off, I attempt to 'quickly' move those two groups as close as safely possible to cover the two bridgeheads to the north. But they will only move so far before they stop and then I have the devils own job to get them to move, which fails, I TRY normally just to move them North West just south of Brandsheid. Anybody can think on how to get these two fire teams to move, please let me know.

Setting them to defend with ammo up high is an excellent idea. Thx

I did got a decisive defeat for the first try, being too cautious. However in the second try, i use move mostly instead of attack and push those VGD to their limits, i.e. not allow them to rest. And got a decisive victory 100:36 points. Securing all VLs at the end. Taking St. Vith is much easier than I anticipated. I send out one Reg via the west most route by foot to St. Vith directly, and caught it undefended, guess most Allied unit are trying to defend/re-capture the bridges.
The only issue I met is supply for the Stug companies and my 3 kingtigers. Have to withdraw them during night to the back to get any ammo supply from the corps supply base. Wondering how one can change the supply base of those reinforced unit?

You can't choose which base a unit will draw supply from, but you can move the base closer to the front line. Regardless, supply will always be a problem for the Germans in this game.

Another question regarding supply, are different types of supply arrive separately? for instance, my 506 bn detachment's log says supply had arrived more than a couple times during night, but its ammo did not replenish until next morning. I checked the base has ammo in store throughout the whole night, why it did not send them to this unit whose ammo supply is prioritized to high?
