Fleets and automation.

Post by Tarm »

Hello.

Is it possible to have one fleet that is static and manually controlled and still have the AI create and manage fleets?

The AI isn't very good at waging war but for the most part I get bored with it. Having a small but strong fleet taking a moon or planet here and there while the AI handle the rest of the war would be fun.

Tarm...I believe you can, just make sure that all of the ships in the fleet(s) you want to manage (Captain) are not set to "automate" (i.e. there is no blue emblem in the lower left corner of the ship summary screen when the ship is selected...especially the Fleet's designated lead ship) I think you can also check this
from the Fleets screen (F8 key). Anyone please correct me if they know different. It seems to work
for me.

I just remembered. I once tried to handle fleet without turning of the AI that managed them. The AI kept disbanding my fleets without asking me.

Have you tested this recently? I'm asking because I tried that and what Foraven said is what happened.

This is what happens to me too.

My thinking was that since you can set automation on and off for ships you should logically be able to do it with fleets too. That was before I started trying to do it...

As long as I don't have any of my fleets ships set to automate, AND the fleets
have a mission set (i.e. patrol moon XXX or attack planet XXX) I've so far haven't
had any of my manual fleets disbanded by the AI. Now I do know that if one or more
ships (except the designated "lead" ship of the fleet) have automate on, the AI WILL
as necessary send them on a mission it deems important (nearby pirate intercept ~
mining base defense, etc.) In addition, I've also have noted that the ships WILL return
to the fleet, but you must use the "Prepare and Gather" command.

I'm not certain what troop transports routine is yet, and I would guess it's a bit
more complicated since they have an extra command set (Load Troops) available to them
both separately and in conjunction with fleet operations.

Just my two bars of gold-pressed latinum worth!

Well I guess I'm back to testing again. When I create a fleet with only non automated ships and leave the Fleet Manager on it ain't working BUT, when I've done that before I've left my fleet idle. Gonna try it again and have my fleet on patrol duty or something when I don't need it.

I know the game have great support with patches so I'm hoping for a patch that include making this easier. That is if I can make this solution work. :)
