This may sound a bit ironic, but Civ V has been changed to a tactical war-based system, and also plays out now on a hex-based grid. So... you can look at that as a mini- Heros of Stalingrad if you want. :P

No need to get too upset right now. I could understand if you bought it, and ended up with something that was non-playable.

There's the elephant in the room. What if after waiting this long the game turns out to be a dog.

Mark,

Will the PC game have the same spotting mechanics as the board game?
This means all units are visible to the opponent but cannot be shot at unless spotted or revealed?
Or will it become more like traditional PC games where units will be hidden to the view of the opponent?

I think we need to be fair here. Having recently posted a rather negitive post I believe that mark has stepped up and givin us information. First of all we must assume he is busy. Second I would not want to be expected to be beholden to this post to answer every question all the time. My frustration as with many of you was the total lack of information on a game that I for one am very excited about. He makes money when the game is released so you have to take him at his word, that it is a work in process and him checking in once in a while is a resonable response. He doesn't "owe us a game" but we shouldn't be teased either! Thanks for checking in once in a while Mark and hopefully for all of us we see the game soon! Better to do it right than fast as this game will fill a big whole that exisits in the available titles I'm interested in.

>>I think we need to be fair here.<<

So do I. We should be fair and mark should be fair.

>>Having recently posted a rather negitive post I believe that mark has stepped up and givin us information.<<

He gave us a screen shot. That's not much information.

>>First of all we must assume he is busy. Second I would not want to be expected to be beholden to this post to answer every question all the time.<<

I only have *one* question and it's the question most discussed. The question is *when* is this game going to be delivered.

>>My frustration as with many of you was the total lack of information on a game that I for one am very excited about. He makes money when the game is released so you have to take him at his word that it is a work in process and him checking in once in a while is a resonable response.<<

I never thought for one second that it is *not* a game in progress. If I really thought that it was vaporware I wouldn't bother posting. "checking in once in a while" is nice, but it's really not getting us anywhere.

>>He doesn't "owe us a game" but we shouldn't be teased either!<<

I disagree with you emphatically that he "Doesn't owe us a game". After telling us for *years* that he's going to deliver the product, and telling us to "be patient", he certainly *does* owe us a game.

>>Thanks for checking in once in a while Mark and hopefully for all of us we see the game soon! Better to do it right than fast as this game will fill a big whole that exisits in the available titles I'm interested in.<<

After 5 years of waiting there's no chance at all that he could be considered to be "doing it fast".

calm down, calm down - what, dear Gunhawk are you going to do if he changes his mind and scraps it? This man owes you nothing, the game is a creation of his intellect and skill, provided, by his leave, for your entertainment, he will, can and rather upsettingly probably is going to take as long as he damn well needs, in the meantime youll wait until its finished - if thats outside your timeframe of personal acceptibility then dont buy it, but ill bet youre first in line with me on release day [:)]

Maybe we should do this in the same way as boardgames. Let's do a P500 or a P1000.
This will be familiar to Mark and Lock n Load will then be compelled to release a game.
Problem is, we don't want it to turn out like other other pre-order disasters (Elemental).

Well, technically we haven't pre-ordered yet, so that is still debatable.

On the other hand, I've pre-ordered quite a few things on Amazon in the past, and waited for 2 years until I finally got the last message that they haven't received the item from the publishers to be stocked, so they are refunding my orders.

So I guess the answer Gunhawk is to rip everyone. You should look up the difference between "owed" and "entitled". Unless you have invested in the startup cost he owes you NOTHING!!!!

I'm not ripping anyone. I have no desire to insult people. Don't make it sound like I'm going after you because I'm not. I just replied to your statements. I disagreed. I'm not trying to insult you or anyone else personally.

I used the term "owed". One of the definitions is :

"To have a moral obligation to render or offer"

After telling us to "be patient" and that he would eventually deliver the game, and asking us to wait for such a long time, he now has a moral obligation to deliver it. A man's word is as good as his bond. Now, once again, I'm sure that he *does* intend to deliver it...but when? Anyway, this is beginning to feel like an absurdist Samuel Beckett play. Maybe we should have titled the string "Waiting For Stalingrad". LOL

Indeed, I have a theory that name is going to stick. But as I said many times, so many great war-games around already, I can afford to wait for W.F.S. to come out :P

It was stated it would use the PC in anyway it could to help with play...and the other side will not see your units...

I just posted to Longblade at The Wargamer site asking him if he had received his preview copy yet, but Longblade is GONE! Could this be some sort of sinister plot? Is Mark killing off the people that he's in contact with while moving his updates from site to site to throw us off the trail? Is the CIA somehow involved in this? Am I next??

WAIT!...OMG...its...NOOOOOOO!

BANG!

Forget it. Not this year. In fact, I'm starting to believe that those who called this game vaporwear may be right. A couple of years ago I thought that Mark was really serious about releasing this product. I'm not so sure anymore. After all he can say that he's "working on it" from now until doomsday and never actually release it. Whether it's because of time restraints, lack of staff, lack of money, or whatever. If it doesn't get released it doesn't matter why. The bottom line is no game.
