Units & estabs

Post by Merv0728 »

Morning all,
In the estabs I have noticed several units with Gp on the end of the name, like Inf Coy Gp,am I right in thinking this means a Group of Coys ?
If so then this particular one doesn't seem to have enough equipment/weapons for a group of coys.It only has 92 Lee Enfields, 20 Stens, 10 Brens,2 Vickers, 4 2" mortars & 5 Piats.

Can someone put me right on this please?

Also,I don't see any Divisional units such as RASC or REME workshop etc., have these been allowed for in some way in the game engine ?

Thanks
Alan

Merv0728:

For the British, the gp does stand for "group" but it doesn't mean "a group of" but more like "that part of the higher formation". Kind of a British thing I guess.

For the Germans, the (gp) was the German designation for "geschlepp" meaning mechanized (halftracked) transport. The (mot) designation means truck transported.

Service and logistics units are considered to be melded into the Base and HQ units, AFAIK there are no individual units explicitly representing these branches in the game.

Simovitch,
Thanks for the reply, gets a bit confusing with all this terminology. I've been trying to find a decent listing of British Support Groups/Companies but they all seem to be different.
Any ideas on books that are worth getting explaining all this ?

Thanks again

Try to get hold of the books by Malcolm A Bellis. He produced a whole series of small paperbacks on the structure and TO&Es of units of the British Army in WWII.
