Questions regarding playback

Post by BigDuke66 »

I got some questions regarding playback.

1. Can it use a different zoom level?
I would like to be closer to the action.

2. Can the move be delayed a bit after the screen refocuses?
Feels to me like the unit is already moving before screen is focused on the action.

3. Can it also step backward?
Ahead is nice but when you want to see a specific action again a step backwards would be very useful.

4. How about a new button to skip or fast forward to the next visible action?

My understanding is that the 3.4 version has zoom on the playback so that you indeed CAN get closer to the action. How cool is that?

I feel the same way. I've been known to have my mouse curser over the exact spot I need to watch when I re-do the playback just to see if I can possibly discern where the mover came from. It is nice to be able to see where he's going however so I haven't pushed Ralph for much.

I used to work as a computer programmer before I retired and I coded stuff like that. You can hold onto the "previous state" while you display a "current state". That's easy. Going to a step at random, which is almost like what going back a differing number of steps to get to a specific step is, is harder. You'd have to hold all the seperate steps in memory or read it from a file or obtain it from the web somehow. It's complicated to do. Possible but memory intensive OR slow either one.

How? Mouse wheel does not work.

Well one step back would already be OK and a simple "Stop before/on next visible move" when letting the playback play would also be fine, this would allow me to let it run until something happens that I can see and then simply go step by step forward and backward just like I need it.

Actually the reverse. You could zoom in 3.2 and now mouse wheel zoom has been disabled in 3.4 when any dialog is open. Zooming with dialogs open was causing "unknown parent" problems, among other things. See item X, 11 in the 3.4 part of the What's New.

According to the What's New under 3.1.0.9 item 9, you can backspace. Right click on the single step button. I haven't tried it.

Hey great! That works perfectly, a mentioning at the bottom would be nice so the players knows that he can also step backwards.
