We gun down numerous enemy planes over Nuku today!
Quite satisfactory.

In Burma Andy launches massive sweeps and heavy bomber missions against Mandalay.
Think I've found the way to handle these now. The first sweeps only met slight resistance,
when the bombers droned in 30 Tojo's suddenly reacted to the enemy activity and gunned down numerous Wellington's and even a B-17.
Since we have 458 engineers at Mandalay we repair damage rapidly and today's raids didn't cause much havoc as weather was poor.

Andy said it was impossible to build and reinforce Tennant Creek since we kept it completely suppressed.
He also noted that he could launch a massive offensive into Northern Oz but that the cost was considered to steep for the time being.

This was the plan:

No sign of any Allied ships near the Marquesas today; Andy ran for it!

Instead we had heavy air attacks on Taung Gyi in Burma. Allied bombers closed down the field and destroyed some 20 fighters on the ground.
We lost another 17 ac in A2A while shooting down a similar number of enemy ac.

Seems like I'm beating back the sub attack around the Home Islands.
Several subs reported sunk the last turns, not sure it's correct but pretty sure we've hit a few quite hard.

Everything is hanging in the balance; attacks - counterattacks and parry.
Guess this is when the game is most evenly balanced! [:)]

Just caught up again after your holiday PzB , that was a very close call you made in the marquesas , since Andy legged it he's lost a fair bit of time for a counter invasion assuming he has to re-prep his invasions troops elsewhere. Or he's just being cowardly (very un scots like) [;)].

Not sure if Andy has run for it, nevertheless I'm using the opportunity he's given us to hand out a few beatings.
Today we invade his main base in the Marquesas; afraid we may struggle as my inf regiment only has 36 preparation.
- If there are only base forces we should do it. Sent in battleships to bombard first and gave the invasion TF a heavy cruiser for support.

That may be correct. Didn't think Andy would have enough Catalina's to fly in so many troops but today our LRCAP shot down 5 Hudson III (LR).
Assume these are long range transports operating out of Tahiti.

Ok Christmas Eve; no major assaults this turn!

We're getting close to the end of 1942 - and the happy times.
After running wild for a year the balance is slowly changing in favor of the Allies.

1943 will probably be the year the war hangs in the balance.
44 will be the year when the Allied advance on Japan will get into high gear.
45 will be a fight for survival and 46 I don't want to think about [;)]

It's time to look back and evaluate the previous actions.
- We conquered the historical conquests with ease
- We failed to conquer Australia and had to settle for 2/3rds which shrank to half.
- The conquest of the Line Islands was a good achievement and the Marquese islands is merely an expansion on this operation
- The operations in Burma have grown out of any proportions; first threatened by a massive Allied assault we managed to halt this assault and we're now having a stand off

We came close to destroying the US carrier fleet in Sydney but had to settle for one.
Numerous enemy carriers have been torpedoed but only a CVE was sunk.
The Mini KB got the hammer and we lost a second class Junyo carrier and a few light carriers.

The decisive naval victory battle has not taken place, but it could have happened at least twice; south of Perth and now near the Marquese islands.

Can't say the achievement has been stunning but it hasn't been a disaster either.

Hiva Oa is isolated island. 3-day bombardment by 2BBs, and few DDs, at point-blank, should disable even latrines. The only problem are mines. Last guns were destroyed by landing, obviously.

Bombers going after an airfield are not going to cause many casualties. Even ground attacks will not cause many casualties in non-clear terrain. More important is disruption.

In my last games I've had whole battle fleets bombarding and the only casualty has been Al's chimney

To have the most effective bombardments, you need to set the float planes on your bombarders to night recon of the target. They then act as spotters. I seem to have reasonable results when I do that, and also have a 9/10 detect level. (Reasonable = less damage than the nukes of Witp-classic but enough to make it well worthwhile)
