A dificult request

Post by traskott »

Ok, I love modding art files.

But, I'm really bad cutting and pasting the individual airplane art files on the main file, and ( for whatever reason ) I have no get to work the trick of the folder AlliedPlanes, to overwrite files.

So is possible make a tool which allow "remade" the planes art files of both sides? You put the individual files on one place, then mark the number of the slot and voila !! It is pasted in the correct side, allowing have just one art file for airplanes and giving more room to modifict art as the years move on.

(sorry for my bad english, some UK Institution gave me a title but as I read the post looks like as I have get it on the lottery )

Thank you in advance...

The utility is called Image Magick. It's free and open source. Once you get it installed it's run as a command line utility (it adds commands like "convert"). The command you want is "montage". If you do install Image Magick I recommend you also install Ghostscript as Image Magick will call on Ghostscript to perform certain operations on PDF files.

I'm no expert with them, but I've used them a bit and made a few batch files just to help get the commands right on a consistent basis. I could help you with the commands/batch files for the montage command to do what you want.

You can find them at these addresses:

http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php

http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

Note that these tools have been around for a long time, are actively updated and maintained, and are very powerful. They have more functionality than I will ever call upon.

somewhere on the forum there is a .psp or .psd grid file I made to make lining up the aircraft art much easier. When I'm not at work I might try to find it again and post it here.

What doesn't work? Be a little specific and let's see what's going on.

Ok. I download the file image magic 6.6.0-10zip, extract it to desktop, and look the readme.txt. Ok, no word of installation...

I launch make.com (from explorer.exe ) and I get this image:

I press "cerrar" (close) and...end of the game...

That is the tool, it works in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop (instructions are for Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop is a bit expensive on my budget).

Basically, its just a clear layer with a box grid (in bright yellow) that you can add on top of the existing artwork and use the layer to select your box for the background. Only does the tops though. Still the tops are the hard part.

I also bumped the thread for it, so people can find it easily.

Thanks Shark7!

Traskott - I thought you were running Windows? They have installs for Windows. And if you are running Linux, try just looking for it in the package manager for your OS. Even if you use what Shark7 is showing Image Magick is a great tool to have, and mine practically installed itself.

OK - come back for more help if need be. When you were talking about 'make' files that's dealing with the source code for, most likely, a version of linux they don't have binaries for. They (both packages) definitely have binaries for Windows.

If your using Windows 7, PSP will run with no problems...even the older versions of it (I use PSP 8 on mine which is a Windows 7 Machine).
