Let's say when german fighters intercept your formation...does the game go to a screen showing the aerial dog fighting, like Over the Reich does? Or does the game just tell you what happens?

No it does not show...just tell you.

yea, just gives a battle report flash message

telling you the attacker losses (damaged, shot down) and defenders losses (the same)
