The RCG/RCE/SE "Q"

Post by Lrfss »

This question applies to both PCK & PCO. If you change the Core units in the editor and are starting off in '41 will those '41 era units upgrade in the Campaign as you go when using the RCG or always stay what was initially selected till say '44 or '45? And if they do upgrade, how can you till what the next upgrade would be if not obvious based on series of type unit? I guess I'm not to clear on this atm...

Thanks in advance!

You want to know, if during long campaigns, that possibly cover more than a year, does the equipment upgrade for the campaigns core units?

Yes the equipment is upgraded depeind on the length of the campaign you choose. ie, you might start with Pz IIIG and end up with Panthers. this is controlled by the random campaign designer.

As far as knowing when it will happen, you need to read the Campaign Notes at the bottom of the Campaign briefing :

from the 1st Pz Long Campaign:

=== UPGRADE NOTES === You will receive very few replacements and no upgrades in 1941. During the Spring of 1942, you will receive some replacements and some very useful equipment upgrades in anti-tank and anti-infantry firepower.

During the Summer of 1943, you will again receive some replacements and some additional equipment. In the fall of 1943 you will receive your first Panzerfausts in limited numbers.

During the Spring of 1944, your final wave of replacements and upgrades will arrive, this time equipping all your squads with Panzerfausts to face the increasingly powerful Soviet tanks."

I don't think you find out anything more until it happens.

thanks

Weren't new things folded in in winter 44-45? 251/22s come to mind and heavy and new recon vehicles.
Images should be easier to load at Matrix.

Ok cool, thank you! I know the preset campaigns had the upgrade factor as described, however I was unsure regarding campaigns modified/edited in so far as the Core units go and would they upgrade over the time of the campaign. For example I modified the 1st Pzr Div 41' - '44 Long Random Campaign Core units to reflect more along the lines of the 2nd SS starting in '41 and was of course hoping those same Core units would upgrade through the campaign no doubt...???

So if they do upgrade as for example If I have a IIIG or say a IVE Platoon in '41 would they potentially upgrade only within their respective series like to a IIIH and IVF1 respectively (whatever is next in line) in say for '42/'43 or can they upgrade out of their respective series to say from a III to a IV or V or more and it's totally random depending on the time period or what? I would assume the infantry would/could go from say a SS SMG 41 to a SS SMG '42 if it upgraded in '42 as well?

I'm not looking to find out what or when the specific upgrade could take place, just that there is in fact a chance it will and if so is the unit upgraded in the next better in line/series or is it even more random than that?

Hope I explained this a little better this time?

Thanks in advance, I love this game (PCK) and just got it a week ago and don't know how I missed it! I'm an old SL/ASL/SP's fan from way back and of course a WitP-AE nut as well!

Random Campaigns are driven by the Random Campaign file and uses Battle files to control forces, scenarios, and upgrades. A user can create your own Random Campaign file and Battle files to control what forces would be used, types of battles, and what equipment would be used, and what upgrades would be made, and when they would be made.

When you made your edits, what file(s) did you edit to change your core units? It's necessary to edit several files to make sure that the random campaign has continuity. The unitname attribute is the critical control and must be the same in all of the Battle files used.

In brief, it's certainly possible for a Random Campaign to do what you described, as long as the designer of the Random Campaign set it up that way. There is a document in the Manuals directory that discusses these files. You might want to review that doc, and try your hand at creating a 2ss Pz Div Random Campaign.

I'd be glad to help once the patch is released. And there are several others who know more about campaigns than I do, and I'm sure they would chime in as well.

Thanks
Rick
