is it just me?

Post by madgamer2 »

It might be my old WitP attitude showing but am I the ONLY one who thinks the map is...well a bit modern, upbeat, ok I"ll say it gaudy? Or maybe even ugly. I might have to take Razz up on his offer. with his new graphics and other stuff. I mean do you all really like the map?
I would ask for a refund but I have the download and hard copy and installed it the way they told me and the DVIX still does not produce images till the wasteland logo appears

well I guess in life you pay your money and take your chances. I should have looked at the screen shots a bit more (SIGH)

Taste is a funny thing, and I am sure there are some who agree with you, but not me. I have seen how easily modified the graphics in the Wasteland games are and I am sure there will be map mods available.

I am having a lot of fun with this game and I have a couple of runs through the Australian scenario. If you have enough time give one a try, or, perhaps one of the smaller ones. The game mechanics quickly become famillar, and then you start having fun. Things move quickly.

I have some after action reports in the AAR section, and perhaps you can get a feel for the operational problems the scenario presents. I am enjoying myself.

I just looked in the Mods and Scenarios section and there are some nice map mods already. I think you would like Peter123's. I know I do, but then my fondness for his good work is known from my use of his maps in ToW AARs.

You were not in on the Letter I sent to the Matrix Head of Operations. I looked at the screen shots on the SOtP forum and as I told David mine do not look like them at all. I have win 7 Pro and David sent me exact instructions on how to install the game(turn off firewall, anti-virus etc)which I did in both the 64 bit and x86 folders as well as in a directory of its own and they all appear ugly. I thought at the time they were some kind of modern weird new age graphics but they are a perverted version of the screen shots on the web sit. Also i printed the PDF file manual read it liked it a lot. The game runs really, really S-L-O-W. I have no Idea of how to upload a graphic file and told David that I would like a refund but how? I mean if I sent back the disk and case what about the down load file? This could be a scam to get a free game but it is not. I have bought seven games from Matrix and will continue to even if a partial or total refund is not possible. Also the DVIX file did install but you get none of the Matrix intro logo till the wasteland logo appears just the audio. When you get to the map preference for example the sample in the box is just partial hex lines that are striped in different colors. I ran the game playing some little country and the hex"s actually changed color. In the years I have been buying computer games (apple 2 days) I have never seen a thing like this.

It was just what I wanted that is not as detailed as WitP or AE but a system I could understand. At this point I do not know what David or Matrix will do but I will remain a loyal customer.

The screen shots in my AARs are accurate representations of what I see when I play. Does your view look like those shots?

I am running Win7 64 bit Ultimate, but I installed in the folder structure under "Matrix Games". I do not like installing in "Program Files" of any flavor under Win7 because the games write to files in this structure, and under Win7 UAC you may not be able to write to these files. If you are up for a re-install, I would chose a folder inside the "Matrix games" structure, perhaps parallel to the other games you have.

I have purchased WitP and AE, but must admit I never played them. I just do not have the time now. I think this game, SotP, is more a "fun game" than a serious simulation, but I can get through a game in a time frame that works for me.

The game looks not different than on the screenshoots.
