Looking for some insight and guidance.

I've played through the first six battles in Watchtower with the following results. I'm USMC.

1. Tulagi - MV
2. Tulagi: Hold the Front - DV
3. Fire on the Flanks - DV
4. Ambush Matanikau River - DV
5. First Matanikau - DV
6. The Ichiki Assault - Draw (and a dressing down to boot at the end)

WRT Battle 6, I wonder what happened to caused that result? The battle played out as follows:

1. Starting positions: My forces are N of the victory hexes (N being top of screen). The unlaimed VHs are south of my troops.

2. Enemy forces start up the trail and capture VHs while I move my forces S and around the flanks. Other enemy forces move in from the SE. At one point in the early turns, the enemy holds all VHs.

3. I bring my forces S and begin to engage using mortar prep to help.

4. Over the next few turns, I continue to advance and engage. My flanking units continue to avoid engagement and sneak around the enemy flanks heading S to the bottom of the map.

5. Enemy forces defend well and I suffer losses and a couple retreats.

6. Eventually, the enemy forces begin to fall back to the SE and S. I pursue. Other friendly forces work their way around to the rear to act as a blocking force.

7. I continue to pressure the enemy back. My forces begin to interdict the enemy at the bottom of the map.

8. More enemy forces are totally destroyed and I continue to push S. I prep the advances with mortar fire.

9. Eventually, I destroy all the enemy on the map and recapture all VHs. At about Turn 13, the game ends with a far too fast "Draw" result screen and the a** chewing. I was unable to record the scores. Then on to the next battle.

Any idea on what I should of done better?

Possibilities:

I needed to capture the unclaimed VHs first and hold them.

While I think I lost only one unit completely (a 30 cal MG), I lost too many troops across the organization.

Looking at your record it was bound to happen, Mega's branch according to battles results and the chosen paths you take. It is very normal to evientually run into a brick wall. The theater CC in place saw the job you were doing and gave his toughest asignment to the Field CC that was best suited for the job, you should feel honored not disappointed. You survived.
