1.80 beta issues
1.80 beta issues
I'll try to keep all the reported problems with 1.80 together here. Starting from the issues visible from the start:
- 1366x768 support and other new resolutions that Beck said will be featured by the patch are not there, so pretty please?
- Sound volume is labelled in the preferences as "pref_sount_volume"
- another option in preferences shows internal string - "pref_show_city_names"

RE: 1.80 beta issues
Hopefully there is not much to report
Anyway I don't know about other players but I won't manage to do a lot of testing before the weekend...
A small addition to the list:

RE: 1.80 beta issues
I'm in the middle of a game in 1.7 ATM, so I won't be patching up before the weekend.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction
RE: 1.80 beta issues
Bugger, we've been waiting for this patch almost as long as a normal pregnancy time, and when it's given birth at last, this coincides with the crash of my main gaming computer. Doesn't that stretch the laws of probability to a dangerous level?
Anyway, apart from the issues mentioned above, and testing on the old computer, I haven't encountered anything, save the old fan-running-wild-issue and some odd occurrence where my screen resolution is re-set to some spooky value, followed by a run time-error. The latter, I'm sure, has to do with other programs running, cause when I restart and have only ToW and some Internet applications running, everything is well. Oh, yes, typing while ToW is running off-screen, is very slow.
Many of the changes concerns issues beyond my caring, but I really appreciate the mouse-scrolling and ability to tie certain locations to numerical keys. Another (finally) great change is being able to search through the reports without constantly having to click up and down the list. Very good.

RE: 1.80 beta issues
I saw that the reduction for non-armour units attacking armour units have finally made it's way into the game. Splendid.
When attacking a target at odds lower than 1-1, there's now a line saying that defender losses will not be allocated. This is new, isn't it? Have the hardcoded part of any combat resolution been altered apart from this?

RE: 1.80 beta issues
When I start the game I receive the following:

The site wants to charge me $14.95 for these codecs...which I ain't payin.
Games still plays fine if I cancel this dialog but it is irritating.

First, you are not missing anything, just some company logos. Secondly for the future codec packs from here: http://www.codecguide.com/ include Intel Indeo for free, though I think they are deselected by default so you need to do an advanced install.ORIGINAL: Unhappy

RE: 1.80 beta issues
Unhappy, you are the first person reporting that issue. could you please go to the main game folder, and then to the data subfolder and run all videos that are in there?
Please let me know which one is making problem for you.
Thanks in advance.

RE: 1.80 beta issues
Unless my memory fails me, in 1.70 we could run the game in window mode in resolution lower or equal to the screen resolution, now it is only lower. If it is so this is a serious regression.

RE: 1.80 beta issues
Hi doomtrader,
I have VLC media player installed on my PC. When I double-click on the 4 files in the data folder (intro, intro2, credits.avi and credits.ogg) they all work. I assume that credits.ogg is only a sound file. As I said, the game still runs fine, probably just some quirky error on my PC.
Let me know if you want me to try something else.
Thanks.
Oh...fun game!

VLC is very bad to test this, it uses it's own codecs not the ones installed in your system. You can rightclick on the file, choose "open with" and just try it with windows media player.ORIGINAL: Unhappy

Right click and drag on the Fleet screen would be nice, but it is not a big issue.

Same as Borsook...i could have 1024X768 windowed & now i carn't.
I also have the same sound problem i had with SOP.....
the plane attack sounds not playing every now & then.
& 2 very small bugs in pic.
Top pic..the dice covers the numbers...not on them all may i add.
And in the bottom shot playing the grand campaign it says"weren[]t"
No idea why there is a white box...odd.
I would love to have the smooth mini map scroll from TOW in SOP.

RE: 1.80 beta issues
I am having a problem with 1.80 Beta. As shown in the picture below, the program is not drawing the boundary lines when hex ownership changes control. It was doing this at first, but the program crashed at one time (I have a new computer and can't blame the crash on ToW definitively) and stopped drawing the lines at some point.
Edit: I reinstalled v1.80 Beta and the problem went away.

It's one of the F-keys, F7 or F8 I think. Try clicking them to see what happens. Or press F1 to see the list.

It's F7. Now I feel stupid. Thanks for the info though!
RE: 1.80 beta issues
So, any news on 1.80? I really hope that it will bring back the window mode in full resolution and additional resolutions mentioned before...
