Played the hell out of it in the first half of the 80's.

Is it a PC game? Give us a link? I have Starfleet Command which is a real time game of Startrek battles. I never really liked it though because it's real time.

No.

Starfleet Command 1 & 2 & OP were based on Star Fleet Battles, which is still an active board game and predecessor to Federation Commander, which itself is a streamlined/stripped down iteration of Starfleet Battles. They all come back to Starfleet Battles by Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) via Task Force Games. (Note: Starfleet Command 3 was too far from Starfleet Battles to really say it was based on SFB anymore)

It's still on my game shelf. Lots of the pieces have worn edges. [8D]

Great fun with a group.

Also still have Federation and Empire. Wish that were made into a PC game.

You're thinking of the ST Tactical Combat Simulator game from FASA. Which was very similar. In my opinion the rules to this one was better than SFC - more streamlined, including the damage system which was much more interesting. For being a faster playing game, it seemed to have more detail in the basics. I wouldn't mind digging it up on Ebay sometime, come to think of it, as mine has been long long gone.

The stands were for miniatures you could buy separately, of course. [;)]

EDIT: It looks like someone made a nice windows port that even had an AI. http://www.anzwers.org/free/fasa/JRSTCSComputerPort/ Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the download for it yet, as the creator's downloads have been wiped. [:(]

One summer a friend and I re enacted the General War, with a list of fleets and roster of names for ever ship. We played every day that summer and it was brutal. 3 months later all we had left on both sides were ships light cruiser class and smaller. It was glorious.

Played it for years. Have got SFC too. Federation and Empire is THE strategic space sim style game we have always wanted. It was virtually unplayable as a boardgame but with the processing power of the PC...

Breath not held. Its been 20 years already..

I used to play SFB and F & E and had the FASA version too.

Just this week my 9 year old boys and I started playing the card game Star Fleet Battle Force. We are playing the basic rules and having fun. My SFB disappeared a long time ago, but this makes me want to go buy it again.

I was so much into Star Fleet Battles back in the day we had every ship named on the SSDs. There's even a history on the General War. This is the one that was on one of my Captain Logs. http://www.starfleetgames.com/sfb/sfin/general_war.htm

I had a lot of fun with that one back in the late '80s. I made my own races with 5 ship types or so in each race. I also made a flying saucer which was totally fun but not serious.

There's a guy in our gaming club who keeps bringing it but we never seem to get a game going. Too many other things to play.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

I still play once a month with three other guys. After all these years it is still one of the best starship tactical combat games.

Had a good little weekender club goin years ago. I could never figure out why the original SFB game was not computerized in the '486 days. Although the warp factor was a good copy of i,t but very primative (apple II era). And no, Starfleet Command did not capture the feel of the original SFB at all.

Played another game called Taveller about that time too. More role play Space sci fi than strategy. And again these board game licenses really killed any PC possibility due to greed, so we are destined to never see computer conversions of these games.
