How to use AR ships

Post by Bondo16 »

Could someone run me through the proper use and conditions of an AR repair ship as the Japanese. Thanks!

As long as they have less than 50% sys damage they'll work.  You must disband them in a port for them to work so a port to small to disband in is of no use.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

Each disbanded AR can help a few ships repair. I like to use a few ARs in each repair port.

ASs are supposed to help the subs repair.

They also can supply the subs with torpedoes (given enough supply).

Similarly AD's will supply torpedoes to DDs, CLs, etc., and will also assist in repairs to DDs.

Also, I'd add that I've tended to use the AR "backwards" - meaning I keep most of them in the Home Island ports - whereas I deploy all the naval HQ to the front. Why? Because it is easy to move the HQs around (for instance air transport) and tougher to kill them outright (fragments). The AR in home waters perform similar functional augmentation to the ports for repair and are less vulnerable.

Question is - is it worth converting any more AR? I used to think so - now I'm not so sure. The Japanese certainly need more repair ability late war - but it is cheaper to just build for repair yards? Needs some study.

Joe that explains why we can't find them in our game... we keep looking in likely places! (Ala Babeldoab and Madang) :)

Er, this is the WITP forum [:)] ...

In AE ... Naval HQs have different strengths and weaknesses ... and there seems to be a lot of naval support ... I'd say I find AR even less necessary.

But in WITP AR are useful - and Naval HQ less so than in AE.

So in AE we haven't made any AR - nor have we moved those we start with around - much.
