Quick question...
I am just too lazy to read an electronic manual (+it is murder on my eyes), so this is probably mentioned somewhere.
BotR/Allied side; Is there anywhere I can change existing squadrons plane type? I see where I can do so for arriving squadrons, but not for the ones allready in place.
And another Q, is it worh it targeting radar sites? They seem to repair awfully fast, and my JABOs are useless against these sites...

RE: Quick question...
In BoB I definitely target the sites to reduce the Brits warning time as much as possible. In BotR I usually just work over the ones that can see over the channel to give me a little breathing space, especially for raids into occupied France.

RE: Quick question...
which "Jabo's" you having trouble with ? Tiffies and Mossies should eat Radar Sites up, plain fighters with bombs may have a little HARDer time
yes, Radar has fast repair time, but if and when you can close an area down, it really messes with the enemy's chance to react in time

Hmm, I only get that button on aquadrons that have yet to arrive, the ones on the map does not have that button, at least not the ones I have tried to upgrade [&:]

Sent all the Typhoons I had in the UK to attack one radar site with fighter escort, day 1 - 0 damage, day 2 - 0 damage, day 3 - 0 damage. After that I decided to use those against other kind of targets, they worked wonder on a V1 site.
Ok, will keep working on those radar sites then [:)]
Apreciated guys!

RE: Quick question...
may be over kill, one to three Squadrons will "normally" take out a radar site (unless, it was cloud covered, or still too dark to see ?)
let me look at something, before I say anything about changing planes

RE: Quick question...
okay, that is what I thought, but wanted to be sure, before I said anything
make sure you don't have a "unit" assigned to fly a mission, when you want to change aircraft
once the unit is assigned a mission, that button gets blocked out (it is going to take a day or a few, to get the replacements in)

RE: Quick question...
In 10 months of game time experience, I agree that 2 squadrons of Typhoons or Mosquitos is all one needs to take out a radar site. It is important to make sure they are not glide bombing, which may be the problem experience described.

Ok, how do I make sure they do not glide bomb? I just selected bombing mission, chose the radar site I wanted taken out and chose a Typhoon unit, added all the rest and some fighters to protect them. Do they need to go in at a certain altitude?
And on BoB, is it the same units that fly "normal" bombing and night bombing? It seems so, but I am not at all sure.
Apreciate the help here guys!

RE: Quick question...
Yes, the altitude determines the attack. I think from memory around 10,000 and above is dive bombing and below is glide bombing.
When the fighters attack there will be a message saying "XX squadron is diving to attack" or something similar. You may need to be on message level 3 to see that.
Having said that I find that even when on glide attack a couple squadrons of Typhoons usually do the job. Have you also done post strike recon? Never trust the damage assessment of the strike groups alone.

RE: Quick question...
I forget at the moment, but I know I put my tiffies and Stukas at 12000, for most missions, so I think it is a little over 10,000 for the divebomb (thanks forgot to mention that)
thinking, part of the reason, is all of the planes in a mission, do not really fly at the mission alt, some can be higher, some lower, so I think I always went with 12000, to be safe

The one thing I KNOW I do properly in this game, both pre and post strike recons.
Hmm I will keep trying, and guess I might have to up the level of messages for a turn or two to see what really happens.
Thanks guys!

RE: Quick question...
I can confirm that mostly one strike of Typhoons flying low is enough to rip off a radar station.
I mostly even sent them at 500' feet and dang - radar is four days offline. But I skiped bombing radar a bit.
I changed my strategy now - now I want them just to react
Sent all your fighter in - the last turn in 10/43 yesterday I knocked 89 LW planes off the sky in A2A ! My losses were below 20 - just to show that sometimes you just wish they react. When they react jump over them and kill them.

RE: Quick question...
I would agree, it is a fine line, you want to draw them up and into battle, but, you also, don't want them jumping your bombers, most times for knocking out radar, it is more to do with Nightbombing

RE: Quick question...
Well, I am trying to open a path into the heartland of the industrial reich, I tried sending 740 B17s far into Germany, not a good idea, lesson learned [:D]

Very true - and not only the inbound portion of raid. The German NF chasing outgoing bombers will break off when they are outside of ground radar range. So knocking out the coastal radar helps BC return home with a fewer losses.
