Keeper?

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame! Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents Ancient and Medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield. This forum also supports the Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire expansions to Field of Glory.

Well I think Jim Zabek from the Wargamer says it best:
So I will simply summarize with this: Field of Glory is, at its heart, a multiplayer game. The AI isn’t terribly challenging even at the toughest settings.

Which is what I said earlier. It's a multiplayer game moreso than a single player game. The ai is bad and the graphics are still horrible. I might as well play Centurion Defender of Rome as the graphics are just as good and at least the ai is one of the few good ones in computer gaming.

Killroyishere

I am considering buying this game. However, I do appreciate good graphics to go along with my 24" LCD. I wonder; could you be so kind as to put up a couple of screen shots of this game? Perhaps you could include a situation where the ai is being less than intelligent?

You know what they say Killroyishere; a picture is worth a thousand words. Perhaps you can save me some money. I'll be watching this thread full of anticipation for your screen shots and analysis. Thanks.

BTW, just to help others understand your observations, perhaps you should mention the scenario which you use in your analysis. Thanks again.

Well as much as I would like to oblidge I have removed this game from my hard drive and have no intention of reinstalling it or playing it again.
Also I don't know why you would think I would want to perform some AAR with pictures of a crappy no good game I don't care to play?? Are you just being an a**?
I played the Pompey, Spartacus, the tutorial and the socalled balanced scenario for multiplayer and one other I don't recall the name but it was Hannibal vs Scipio and don't care to reinstall to get the name of it. It also has no Caesar at Alesia scenario a real killer for me.
Also if you want to see the graphics all you have to do is goto the product page and you can view them easily enough. But, I pretty much sense you are just being an a** because I know you are brigher than that as I've seen you post for awhile now.
As I said balcony viewers don't be fooled by the fanboys as they will always say the good and leave out the bad. This game is Crap with a capital C.

I consider it a keeper. It's a lot of fun going against another player, but I find I always learn something going against the PC. I find the graphics on par with, if not a bit better than tin soldiers and I appreciate not getting clobbered by the ts ai's "stealth arrows of doom" near the victory hexes. I dunno, but I found the graphics on the HPS ancient warfare series a lot worse, even to the point of being embarrasing if someone looked at my screen, and I found the aw ai cheated when playing the same battle from different sides. I'm not a phanb0i by any means, but I've gotten the most bang per buck from FoG than any wargame I'ver bought over the last coiuple of years - with SSG's DotD being the absolute worst. I needed to get that off my chest [:)]

@killroy,
Aren't you the one in the top of the FOG Ladder?
You've already played so many games agains the AI by the looks of it and got your money's worth already. [:D]

Back to topic, I kidna like this game for the multiplayer aspect.
I play pbem games for about 5 to 15 minutes a day. But I do forsee that this fascination won't last long.

Given the huge number of armies available in the tabletop version, I would really want slitherine to develop expansions for this. If not, I'll get bored.

Somehow I doubt that is the same fellow-comical fluke though. It would really be funny of it was the same guy. 117 games? [:D] In less than 2 weeks-whew.

Why is Killroy calling people an "ass" in here?

I don't know who this new guy is, but there's a ton of irony in that.

That's the problem with the internet, you never know if you're dealing with a 12 year old or an adult!

You are a rather decisive individual. The game has only been out (time of post) for 12 day’s; you could not have had it very long even if you bought it on day one. I am hesitant to get rid of any game I paid for. Although I did do that before, it was many months of not even wanting to look at it before I dumped it. But you decide to make a purchase quickly, and to dump the game quickly-impressive.

Also I don't know why you would think I would want to perform some AAR with pictures of a crappy no good game I don't care to play?? Are you just being an a**?
I was not asking for an AAR, only a screen shot or two with a comment as to what we were looking at. I thought you could spare 10 minutes to inform fellow gamers of some important flaws in this game. I regret putting you out like that.

Often, the store screen shots do not do the game justice. Posted screen shots can be much more telling. I did look at those and was not overly impressed, but I know there is a better view to be had-I hoped you could provide that. As for the scenarios you have reportedly played, that is not useful by itself. I have noticed the scenario list myself-any casual browser of this forum could see the same thing-without having purchased or played the game. Again- I had hoped you could enlighten me with just a minor comment on a particular scenario with a screen shot to explain what we were looking at.

As I said balcony viewers don't be fooled by the fanboys as they will always say the good and leave out the bad. This game is Crap with a capital C.

I wonder what fanboy’s you are referring to. I suspect every guy in this thread has made his displeasure with a game publicly known here at one time or another. I know at least three have anyway-not counting you. Perhaps you were making a reference to FoG fanboy’s. There may be some of those, but with a game that is not even two weeks old, it must be a good game to build up a fan base so quickly.

So, I had been on the fence as to what genre to jump into; space or the ancients. Thanks to this thread I have finally made up my mind-I will be downloading FoG shortly. Thanks to all-especially Killroyishere for helping me in the choice.

I agree, generally that is true. However, sometimes its easy to tell an embittered 60 year old from the kids.

But I said "embittered", not "crotchety".[:D] There is a difference.

OK-now that is really off topic.

BTW, will you be ready for a game today? I will be getting this a little later today.
