I placed my order today through NWS. I have been looking forward to this title for quite some time.

They are two battles I am very interested in - unfortunately, the interface doesn't throw the game at me.

I agree JD/AL, but there are not to many games in that area to the point that beggars can be choosy.

Ron Dockal's next game is WWII-Europe.

I hope he has improved the User Interface and ease of use functions.

Ron Dockal has been listening to the feedback and the new game engine has quite a few nice changes. The interface, user functions and other game features are better. There is also some discussion of the new features over at Wargamer.

I would encourage anyone interested in this traditional boardgame style to take another look, give it a fair review, and offer feedback going into the next Schwerpunkt game: WWII Europe. This will use the MDE game engine to update the RGW/AGW games. [8D]

LOL eddy - good one.

Seriously - everyone of those posts is pre-2009. There has been absolutely zero info that I know of for that game in the last 2 years...which is a crying shame. I helped with testing for Flashpoint Germany. A beautiful game and well presented. besides, I don't think it was on his release list for this year.

Erik made me laugh with his release list...War in the East!! I mean - seriously before Christmas which is two months away? I've known games which have been touted as ready for launch and the (relatively) simple act of packaging and distributing and setting up the store has taken longer than that.

Anyone waiting on War in the East because of Eriks post had better have a large pinch of salt - they'll need it. Oh - and the hankys when you find out WitE has slipped to Q4 2011 [;)]

No offence Erik - I'm sure you are working as hard as ever to make these releases come true for Christmas....but WitE won't be out until next year - and I predict Q3 or Q4.

That's because you've been visiting the wrong kind of forums [:D]

Robert Crandall posted this on Usenet on September 7th :

"We have been slaving on it but the research is far more complicated then
we expected. We have the games and maps but need to finish the TOE
material and generate scenarios and campaigns. Our goal is to ship in
2010 but who knows? "

You make a fair point - but he still isn't going to make 2010. [;)]

When it does see the light of day, it's a definite purchase for me.

You're right - I just checked and it's not one of the games Erik Rutins mentioned as being in the pipeline for 2010. Oh, well, there's always 2011 [;)]

Modern conflicts emphasize on equip and asymmetric warfare, rather than large battles or encirclements. That can't be sufficient modelled with conventional tbs engines and hence those games feel all lacking.

Very true and I realistically expect it in 2011 but it would still be a fun to have this touchdown in time for my christmas vacation. So excuse me while I hope [:)]

Yes, I agree ... I never quite mastered the massive stack of chits. Phew, I thought I left them behind with SPI's War in Europe.

It is the AI that concerns me. It was worse than useless in Anglo-German War................if it existed at all.

Well in all fairness it was pretty good on defense as long as everything was land based but it was horrible with amphibious games.

Like any game RGW PBEM is where the game shines, and diablo1 is correct, RGW puts up a decent fight on the defense. There are 51 scenarios in RGW if IIRC, with a campaign covering the entire war.

There really aren't that many games out there covering the operational size of RGW/AGW. I guess TOAW, WIR, Advanced tactics, are the only ones that come to mind at the moment.

When I get Middle East (it has been ordered from NWS) I will post my impressions on the UI. I am pretty worthless on how good the AI is, since ALL AI's can kick my arse on a regular basis. I do feel qualified enough to give an opinion on the UI and tutorial/manual.

Flashpoint Middle East is alive and well on my main machine right now. I was adding a couple new features just an hour ago. The research really was a bugger because we became a wee bit over enthusiastic about setting up a data model that can handle any vehicle with any armaments and any sensors in any formation for any nation. Complex. Setting up Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Syria for 1947 to 1989 is driving my colleague nuts. He has the sensors, armaments, vehicles and squads but is stalled on the national organizations of the various formations. The most recent changes (this week and last) were to make the formation data entry process easier and more robust for him and his wife.

With the real formations in at last I can set the 'national parameters' like average training, risk aversion, independence of action, etc and do a final swing through the AI. We have missed Christmas but would have hit it had the data been easier to find and input, and also if a couple of guys that offered to help had managed to click in better.

I have invested all of my spare time since FPG in this game so I'm not about to let it go now!

Cheers, Rob Crandall
