Windows 7 64 bits

Post by Skyfire7631 »

Unable to start the game with Windows 7 64 bits, which was just installed (well, a few days ago). The game freezes (black screen, PC frozen, have to reboot) right at the start.

Tried renaming the avi videos, running as administrator, running in WinXP compatibility mode, all without result, and without any useful log anywhere (game folder or event viewer). Here's what I have in the ConsoleOut.txt file, though :

Checking serial code... OK
Loading FPS limit...
Loading global settings from "data\GlobalSettings.csv"... OK
Loading GUI coordinates nad fonts from "data\GUI_1280x1024.csv"... OK

That was with version 1.70 btw, downloading latest update right now, but I doubt that'll change anything.

The game was running fine with XP before, and strangely enough, I also have Storm over the Pacific running without problem (well, except the videos which I deleted, but that's probably because I did not install the Divx Player bundled with the game). For WW2ToW, I even tried re-running the Directx setup, just in case, but again, that changed nothing.

So, any idea ? Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Hi Skyfire.

I'm running the game at Windows7 64 without any problems. I know there were some of similar issues reported.
You can take a look at the forum, or wait a while until we will investigate this.

I tried searching, but did not come up with anything interesting. Thanks for the answer anyway.

Is ConsoleOut.txt always the same, whether you have video files renamed or not?

Hmmm, almost, this one is with the avi files still in place :

Checking serial code... OK
Loading FPS limit...
Loading global settings from "data\GlobalSettings.csv"... OK
Loading GUI coordinates nad fonts from "data\GUI_1600x900.csv"... OK

The only difference is the resolution it's trying to get the UI from, apparently. What's strange is that my desktop is at 1280x960, and I don't think I changed that between those 2 tests.

I checked Storm over the Pacific log, and it's correctly loading the GUI_1280x960.csv file, so is this the problem ? And if so, why ?

What about reinstalling "as an administator" ? Don't think I did that the 1st time (nor for Storm over the Pacific, that said ...), but maybe it can help ?

Regards.

TO be sure if resolution is the problem, open your GlobalSettings.csv (from game's "data" directory) in notepad and edit numeric value in first line to 99. This will force game to run in best resolution supported.
For example, mine GlobalSettings.csv starts with:

Code: Select all

18;Screen mode
 1;Show cursor
 2000;Hint show delay
 ...
So I would have to edit first line, so it will be:

Code: Select all

99;Screen mode
 1;Show cursor
 2000;Hint show delay
 ...
Then save changes, close notepad and run the game. We would be happy to investigate this problem further with your help to be sure what is the reason and fix it. Now it looks like game doesn't even try to load video files.

Bingo, it worked : changed it to 99 in the csv, the game started windowed, then changed to my normal resolution (1280x960 full screen), exited and the game still starts and plays normally.

So, not sure what happened with the resolutions there (it was at 7, btw, before I changed it), but that obviously was the cause.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated [:)]

EDIT : this probably has nothing to do with Windows 7, actually, apart maybe from right (owner) problems with the config files at setup ? Maybe it would be best to change the title of this thread, in case someone stumbles on the same problem.

Regards.
