Orders with Multiple Waypoints and order settings

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Orders with Multiple Waypoints and order settings

Post by Wiggum »

Hi, [:)]

Lets say i give a Inf Bn the order to attack a town.
I choose the Attack order and hold the Shift key down, then i click once (inside a forest) for the FUP then release the shift key and click again into the town.

****************************................................
*********************************.........................#############
INF BN****----²----> FUP *****...----ATTACK------>...##### T O W N ####
**************************............................################
********************....................................
**********************................................
************************...........................

So now i have the attack order into the town with a FUP inside the forest.
Now i want my Inf Bn to use a covered rout for the move to the FUP(²), they should stay inside the forest to prevent the enemy from espy them. If the enemy opens fire on the Inf Bn then they would be better protected inside the forest then on open ground.

But here is the problem !
If i set the route to covered for the move to the FUP then this setting is also choosen for the attack on the town.
But i want the Inf Bn to choose its own route for the attack (FUP to town), i only want them to use a covered route for the move to the FUP (²).

Can someone please explain this to me, i think i not understand this system correctly...

This is how I understood it, through my gaming experience and thoroughly Reading TFM.

The route settings on attack orders apply only to movements towards the FUP (and any other movement waypoint before the FUP).
The assaults are always conducted in straight line, except in exceptional situations (unpassable terrain, or, in my experience, specific terrain and enemy disposition combination).

So to sum up, for attack order, what you're setting when you set the route is the movement up until the FUP. The assault route itself is up to your commanders (i.e. AI).

That, I believe, is how the things work.

P.S. Nice graphics! Very ... inventive.

Thanks for the answer, that would make sense !

Another question:
Sometimes units that are in defend position will not accomplish another task i give them !

Lets say the A Coy of a Inf Bn has a defend order.
I choose A Coy and give them another defend other somewhere else.
I can see that A Coy is receiving orders (pink square) but then the pink square dissapears and A Coy still is at his own position and does not move...

Now if i pause the game (again) and delete the given defend order and give them the same order again then most of the time they receive the order and start moving.

Is there anything im doing wrong ?
I play with realistic order delay but i think that five hours (this is the time i waited for A Coy to start moving) should be more then enough time !

Can someone help ?

It's really hard to say based on such a limited information.

It may be due to number of good (fatigue, order delay, etc.) and a few of bad reasons (BFTB internal glitches).

It would be necessary to see the situation to really be able to tell.

Can you post a saved game?

Cheers.

Sorry, i have no savegame from that situation...

But it also was the same as reinforcements arrive (fresh troops far away from the enemy line).
The was going into defense position at their entry point.
I ordered them to defend somewhere else a few km away and the same happened as described above.

It was during playing the demo (demo-scenario tutorial).

Would need a saved game taken before the original order was given and another after it when the unit looks like it has ignored the order - ie two saved games one befor eand one after.

Can you save the situation from which it is possible to sistematically reproduce the behavior you're talking about?
