Hot fix work!

Post by MarshallEllis »

Hello all:

Well, it looks like we have created some very hard to dupe issues in the simul diplomacy of 1.08 and we're going to have to ditch it for now! I apologize for the grief and wasted time but the increased sampling of the new release indicates that maybe we did not burn it in enough so it will be gone soon. I will be working this...

BTW: I have several fix requests in and I will try to get to them as soon as time permits BUT I will be a bit delayed!

Thank you

Thank you

I have had a fall down with Simul Diplomacy as a host.

I hit the end of turn button, before I had Spains Dip in and the program moved forward, auto saved, and then Auto backup resaved over the top of the original.

I hit end of turn because I wanted to be sure there where no other players that had to forward there turn, so as host this wasnt a good idea.

But I did this as a player client a few days earlier, (as Spain) and a message came up saying which MP's had not played there turns, but this did not happen playing as host.

So I have had to do a roll back to a previous Auto backup [:@]

Gazfun, this is different from what we are seeing elsewhere. Maybe related to you being the host. Do you have the same potential upgrade problem report elsewhere (i.e. you have recently re-installed the game).

Ive rebuilt the game back to the diplomacy phase. Thank god!
No I havent reinstalled at all, its a thing being host, because you are see the Hosts Diplomacy phase, if you touch the end of turn button, which can be done, the auto save resaves the hosts backup, so that is something to watch out for, It wont matter for anyone else.

Sounds like something that could use improvement. Perhaps a box that pops up and asks if you want to make an autosave. Any suggestions Gazfun?

Marshall, how is the fix coming along? In the interim, can you add a note to your post on updating, to include 1.07 in the re-install process. And ask Matrix to edit there original news release to say this version is not a comprehensive release, but an update to intermediate versions.

If it turns out that the 1.08 update is not comprehensive, then it is possible that earlier versions also had this problem? I am wondering if the re-occurence of some problems that could not be duped in much older versions is related to this.

Finally, will the fix address any other Mantis items or the host backup issue/player skipping. The host backup issue/player skipping are pretty important, and there are are a couple Mantis items that are moderately important to get fixed (728, 735, 721, and 693)

We need to take a poll of all multi-player games currently running on 1.8.04 and whether they are experiencing any issues.

Here is ours: 7-human player on 1.8.04, after everyone installed the game in this order: 1.6.03, 1.7.01, 1.8.04

Already had 2 out-of-sequence errors and it's only reinforcement of feb, 1805

The first was when Spain could not load Turkish Jan naval. The second was when nobody can load Prussia's Feb reinforcement.

Something is still broken.

Bongina, I think you need 1.07.02 rather than 1.07.01.....confusion reigns

Because your out of sequence errors are not occuring in the dip phase, I don't think it can be related to the sim dip phases.

Am I right in thinking that your out of sequence error is the message you get when you try and load the file? The game is not rolling into the wrong phase anymore?

You can get these types of errors when loading the wrong game file. For instance, if the Prussian player accidently sent his reinforcement phase from your old version of the game before the back up, or from his reinforcement file created from the wrong back up (or he is running off his original game save file and not the back-up version that everyone else is using) you would get these errors. I strongly suspect your Prussian player sent the wrong file.

A single player might also get this if they have not placed the file in the correct directory (i.e. the file is put in the commout directory instead, or they have multiple save files floating around).

Double check that everyone is really working off the right back up file, and that everyone followed the same patching sequence, and that the files are being put in the right directory.

It's possible that human error is at fault, but then the program should be made simpler to rule that out.

Oh, so the changes done in 1.7.02 were not replicated in 1.8.04?
Why not?

Actually, they were and I cannot totally answer the question as to why skipping the 1.07.02 seems to have caused some issues???

Yes DB I think that should be something in there, it wont happen to me again, but it will happed to someone who is unwary, so yes that is a big YES on a confirmation message there guys.
This small issue could be enough to break the camels back, if you know what I mean with some players[8|]

And for those who are reading this and mistaking this as a problem to stop playing or not buying it, it would be a mistake to go under this assumption. Remember this is a forum to solve problems, not to cover them over and pretend they are not there. This issue will not effect player enjoyment. IMHO

I just thought I might put that in my signature form now on!
