Detangiling Reserve Pool Suggestion

Post by LoBaron »

Just an idea.

We have a nice feature in the Group window to discern between "general", "group" and this "group" reserves.
It looks like this:

Group reserve => all groups
Group reserve => this group

I am aware that the next patch is DB only, but if there is a future patch how about implementing something similar
to discern between fighter, bomber, patrol and transport pilots?

I am thinking of a setting that looks about like this:

General (all pilots of the service/country in reserve, like it is currently)

General => fighter
General => bomber
General => patrol
General => recon
General => transport

I am a bit tired of sorting pilots by exp and having to find the line where the single fighter pilot hides
between the bomber guys.

IMO this could make the training clickfest a bit easier.

Sounds like a good idea.

Though as a priority, I would rather michaelm work on the ASW/Naval Search sector problem.  michalem is doing great work. [&o]

+1

Everything that saves clicks and makes the interface easier.
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

I agree Mistmaz.

One other reason for my proposal was that from my layman perspective it should be not too hard to implement as, as mentioned, the inteface options are already
present in another part of the same menu and the categories of different replacement pilot qualifications exist also.

Pascal, sure thats only natural as the nav search issue is not an expansion of current features but an existing bug. Different playground so to say. [;)]

It is already in the future patch.

Applies to all Pools rather than just the Show pool:Reserve filter.
And to Get Veteran and Reserve Pool list (under Intel).

So what determines what a pilot is? Is it his highest stat (in this case bombing) or is the type of aircraft he came from when he went in the reserve pool? I ask because I use the IJA bomber groups with 9 or 12 aircraft as ASW patrol aircraft. If these guys are trained into the 70s as ASW (flying Lillys) will they go in the pool as bomber or patrol pilots Michael?

Actually that may be a bad example because IJA doesn't have patrol aircraft. But say Jakes training in escort mission (there is a Jake group that converts to A6M3s or 5s). Would they be patrol or fighter pilots?

When the pilot is moved to the 'reserve', he is classed according to the plane type currently been flown by his group.

Thanks Michael! This is even better than I imagined. [:)]

Just to clearify: So I am able to change a pilots classification by opening a fighter unit,
go to reserve through "request veteran", select a bomber pilot and afterwards release him to the reserve again.
He is the classified as fighter pilot.

Is this correct?

Yep. He's 'classification' is always updated based on the current plane type just BEFORE he gets reassigned.

There is an EXP hit to the pilot when being ASSIGNED to a group flying a different plane type (e.g. fighter pilot assigned to a patrol group) of about 10-20%. His skill set isn't affected just his general flying experience.

Added a count to the filter types so it is easier to see how many there are.

View of the Reserve Pool from Intel.
The counts will change if you filter by Nationality - it will show the adjusted counts for that filter.

It would be nice to be able to select more then one pilot at a time for transferring.

It would be nice to be able to select more then one pilot at a time for transferring.

One solution could be something like a 'hold ctrl down while clicking' option, which then bypasses the confirmation popup box and the pilot just goes where you allocated.

That would save me a lot of time and could also be possibly used wherever the confirmation popups are used.

Of course, you have to live with your mistakes then - I already rotate lots of pilots home for 180 days by mistake!
