Map Making for dummies

Post by Magpius »

A Palau Island Scenario
I'm not sure how far I'll go with this, but if anyone wants to help by posting up OOB's or advice feel free. Once the map is complete, I'll try making other bits or just handball to other tinkerers.
Step 1: Find a good map
Step 2: Do a google search for "hexgrid script gimp"
Step 3: Install the script.
Step 4: Run script on map image
and you get...

Now it's time to paint by numbers.
Open up ed.exe and set the map's hex range, for the Palau example above, I'm running 60,60 hex grid.
You will get an error when you 1st start [8|], because the map can't be set to 0,0... but click continue to set the map parameters, and you're ready to paint.
Save the work, and then. Go to the tutorial file and copy and paste in the consts.csv, (ed does not make one by default [&:]) file.
Otherwise when you open the scenario later, the map will not appear! and you will have wasted all that time. [:@][:@][:@] (just like me.)

Wow ! Your map for Time of Wrath was very good, something similar for SOP would be great. [:)]

Thanks Rasp...
but I think you might be attributing something I didn't do. [8|]
This is my first go at making a scenario map. (Not just tweaking .csv's and modding .png's)
I have 2 graphic mod maps for SOP, 1 of which is already posted. (although it has been subsequently tweaked).
they are...

This is my standard,(rather yellowed and somewhat muted colour palette).

I should have said that I thought your map/unit set for ToW was the best combination I saw, what I am using now for SoP is chopped about bits of several mods (not as bad as Frankenstein's efforts), but good enough to make the game playable. It just needs a more polished set, like the ToW version to qualify as an in game option for Wastelands to include[:)].
