Sorry - to clarify on the Passive approach etc. In the strategy section of the Scenario notes it basically refers to heavy vs. limited U.S troop commitment.

Patch - No I do not have the 3.4 patch installed so that would make sense.
Whats new - i will review this for sure.

Coop penalties - when you mean one at a time do you mean move both form1 and form2 into attack position, Attack with form1 then wait for the next tac round to hit them with form2 and then just alternate each tac round? Sorry I am not sure I fully understand. Please excuse my ignorance.

Whoa......I forgot all about that.  Good idea.

Yeah, I was making a joke of sorts.  First attack with one of them.  And then the next round attack with the other one.  It's a dumb plan and I wouldn't do that myself so....

This game is a blast when played with no-borders on. You don't have a clue to where the bad guys are by descerning where the border is creeping closer to you. It's more realistic that way.

I just realized that you can know where your terrain is and where the enemy terrain is just by turning on the supply buttons. So even if "no-borders" is "on" you still a clue. Like in the picture below:

Larry - thanks for that pic. Being my first campaign and all, If i use that view once and awhile just to learn may I assume it will not completely ruin the scenario?

Maybe RT can give use an option in the player/game section, that one only sees the own supply values, not a "shared" supply value. After all, the current thing means, that in both G4 there are high value spooks, no? ;)

I just downloaded the ALT Board game graphics mod to try it out and followed the directions to install it. Dumb question, how do i get it to work? I dont see the new graphics in CSV. Is it only compatible with certain scenarios?

I am sure everyone has their own favorites, but what are the most common or widely used graphics mods and do any of you have any recommendations?
Follow up - the one i tried to download (board game) just said to "put in alt graphics folder and enjoy" - I did this but can not get to the enjoying part.
(I did get Telu's mod working for some reason but not board game mod - Great mod by the way think i will stick with it)
Thanks for any help in advance

Just you wait. It keeps getting better and better. This FITE game I'm playing with Kevin is exciting for the first 30 turns or so and then when the front lines are firmly established the game changes into the WWI trench-type warfare where the gain of a hex or two per turn are occassions for celebration. And then the Axis will break the Soviet line and it's exciting for another 10 turns or so while the Soviet player scrambles to plug the gap and keep the hordes out of the rear areas. There are other shorter scenarios that are exciting from start to finish. I'm also playing The Next War 1979 and it's only about 40 turns or so and has the Soviets invading West Germany with tanks, helicopters, spaznitz units ( special forces ) and missles, etc. Oh, and also Fast Frigates ( ships ) so both players have their hands full trying to deploy the correct weapons to the right area to make the most difference.

This a.m. I got up aiming to construct a picture of what you might try in Campaign for South Vietnam. I was going to establish a firebase on mountainous terrain ( to stiffle the urge the NVA player might have to attack the firebase ) using helicopters to convey the arty tubes there. And then have about 4 or 5 squads operate in the area(s) covered by the arty. And when that area is swept just move the whole bundle somewhere else and start over searching. You need the arty to protect the ground troops because some NVA units have organic mortars and small caliber guns. Well, I said small caliber but some of them have 155mm cannons. But that's rare. Especially the VC....they only get the NVA hand-me-downs. If you can continually break the bridges on the Ho Chi Minh trail you can stiffle the supply flowing down south. Most of the NVA and VC units can go over to the trail to re-supply and if the supply is cut off you're on your way to winning. B-52's are good for breaking bridges.

Sounds great. I have been at it for about 6 hours and I am only on turn three but I have been bouncing back to the articles and notes etc. I am also keeping track of my attacks and activities, that bump the EEV and "NLF Activity", hexes taken, Province actions etc. in a spreadsheet so I can go back and analyse my mistakes. I certainly do not expect any overwhelming victories while learning.

Jumping in was a good idea to put some of the above help in practice. I really appreciate the help. Understanding the tac rounds etc. Is MUCH easier than when I first started reading about it. Mastering it and maximizing it is the hard part. I absolutely LOVE this scenario and will be sure to get into Boonie Rats missions later this winter. Eventually I would not mind trying something around, say, June 22 1941. Perhaps even a Desert Fox adventure or two. I am sure supply is as lovely there as it is in the NAM.

This is the first hex based game with this type of detail, that i have been looking for, that has the Vietnam Conflict and I am having an absolute ball! Best game ever!

I still have a boat load to learn and I want to get as close to mastering supply/logistics as possible....all in good time I guess. I am still a little foggy on maximizing supply/proficiency and readiness etc. but I am just getting started. Some more reading is in order on these topics I think.

Larry do you have any of those nice diagrams/helpers on supply, readiness and proficiency? Your attack planner one was nice and easy to comprehend and quick to refer to in game.

Best game ever once more for the record.

I don't have one at the moment but as it happens I'm waiting on moves from my opponents and don't have anything else to do so I'll see what I can put together. Stay tuned.
