am planning to use my RN Carriers in CentralPacific as there is nothing to do for them in India. Problem right now i have a RN CVL and nothing else. And i will stuff them with Navy and Marine Sqads until the Brithis get some good fighters.
What happened to the CV's? I thought you should have a few by this time?

I have no clue and as they are note sunk i think my predecessor has withdrawn them. I get a RN CV (the one in Balboa) in 3 days. This will double my CV capacity from 1 to 2. In aprox. 60 days i get my first Essex which will bring me to 3 CVs. Bad times right now.

About OZ: As soon as u don't lose Tennant Creek, everything is ok. Aussie Dessert drain supplies so he will be unable to move large stacks without suffering penalties for low supply.

Another thing is if he attacks into another point (Cairns, or Townsville)

As is had some problems to log in with my notebook (tethering with iphone captcha always fails) i was unable to post some updates on the situation and have to give information for 4 turns at once.

2/15/1943

Pacific

Not much happened this turn. His Carrier TFs are running around midway and killing of some of the escaping Destroyers.

Saratoga is close to Attu, have enough Fuel there to continue the way home. Some of the escorts already reached attu (removed everything except DDs) and are refueling right now. They will meet a CA TF out of fuel 15 hexes SW of Attu group with them and provide Fuel.

My replenishment CVEs and the old BBS from Canton Island have passed Pearl 15 Hexes south and will continue to the West Coast. Could keep them in Pearl Harbor but i dont see a reason right now.

Burma Still retreating my exposed forces and bombarding his exposed forces. Lost some 4E but not that much that i will be a problem. Overall the Air Comabt favors me a little bit.

Australia
I am happy, found a Australian Division in Perth, 480 more AV. Will move it fast to Tennant Creek. Tennant Creek is lvl 9 right now, > 250 Air Support and has already about 150 4E in it. He has 80k Troops in Daily Waters, expect at least 3000 AV and continues to ship troops to Australia.

Right now i do not think that he realy wants to assault Australia as he does not move nor do i get preparation SIGIN.

Pacific

His Battle Wagons bombarded Wake last night. I think they are on their way home as they where screening forces for KB. No problem for me as Wake cant be rescued nor supported right now. Have aprox 100 AV there with a part of an Divison. If i would lose it it will hurt but no real problem.

The TF trying to rescue the Units from Tabiteua was attacked by Betties this turn. Forgot to set the Fights there to CAP, where on training. Lost 3 xAPs and 3 xAKs. No a big deal. As i have a Infrantry Regiment there which is needed to recombine a Division i want to rescue it if possible.

Burma
Nothing happened this turn as i stood down my bombers to rest.

Australia

Cloncurry went to level 8 Base some Air support, Engeneers and a HQ arrived there. Will use this base to Bombard if somehthing bad happenes. Will also place aprox 400 AV in Troops there to stop a possible Armor assault alon the road.

NE Australia is continuing in getting evacuated. No need to have good bases there. Only one Baseforce with a Cataline Sqad will remain there to give some Naval search. Rest will retreat to bases where i can Strat move from.

I do not expect landings in the next 15 - 20 Turns as Japan was stalling or in retreat before the Carriers where lost. I dont think he has any force prepared for landings or even in position to do large assaults.

Overall
Still a lot of units are lacking theyr proper upgrades and most of the Sqad pools are empty or not high enough to upgrade the units. Turned everything of which requires Squads to fill the pool as fast as possible.

Saratoga is two Hexes south of Attu, Fuel will be enough. CA TF still out of fuel but two DDs and a CL with fuel are on their.

Burma
The australian Division is close to Silchar which went to lvl 7 last turn. Will send it to Kaleymo to establish a defense line there.

Sent some Units to Hyabad and Amehabad to be able to move the Armored Bdes there. 2 times 200 AV armored units will come handy. Have to buy them out first but can use them in defensive operations even not bought.

Australia

Doing a lot of recon on the japanese Bases. 85k Troops in Daily Waters, tough nut to crack. Exposed troops continue to retreat under heavy air attacks. I shift them back to move every turn as it will be faster than combat move. Is there a better way to move them ? Will they move in move mode or in combat mode if they are put into reserve mode ?

Saratoga reached Attu and will continue to Adak Island. The CA Tf is in fuel again and will move to Attu to refuel. Lot of Sys Damage for them but not in Danger of anything.

Put another 2 Torps into Tonan Maru. 5 Torps now, tough nut to crack. But should be a shure kill now.

Burma
Complete silent turn again except a xAK lost to a Japanese Sub. Shiftet all available Transport Squads to Ledo to supply Kunmin and the reimaing Chinese Troops there.

Australia
Still just scouting and retreating. Dont want to attack with my Stack of 4E and 2E to early. I dont want to trigger an assault from my enemy on Tennant Creek. He might think that he needs to shut it down to silence my 4E so still waiting a bit.

Well, India looks like in good shape (not invaded). I should not move the aussie div out of Perth. With the NW OZ ports the japanese is unable to properly supply all his forces...Don't give him a free Level 5 port plus shipyard !!!

CENPAC is awful, but if you can reach japanese positions with LBA you should be able to keep presure.

Now the AAR reached our current turn status.

Pacific

Saratoga is on the way to Adak Island. It will completly reful there and then head to west coast. I think i till bypass PH to shift all Planes to PH to further boost the Air defense of PH. I have to admit i fear a little bit an Carrier attack there.

Sent 30 xAKL from West Coast to pearl, they will head form there to Australia/South Pacific as i like xAKL more to supply small bases than the normal ones. They lack the fuel to do long runs, unload faster and if lost dont give that many VPs.

A sub attacked a Japanese BB TF but instead of shooting at the BB the Commander decieded to shot at a DD. Crazy guy.

ASW attack near Truk at 115,107

Japanese Ships
DD Arashi
BB Hyuga
BB Ise

DD Tokitsukaze

Allied Ships

KB disapered and i have no clue where it went to. Except a small part which is still hunting some of the remaining DDs retreating to PH. I except a large attack somewhere in the next weeks.

Burma
Hammered the exposed Japanese forces last turn. Killed some squads but no japanese Airforce there. They seem to have disapered. Possible they went to Australia to dig it out there. All scouted bases are empty. Strange thing.

Australia

First two reinforcment Division have landed in Sydney. Unload will be complete next turn. Sydney lacks a little bit Naval support as a lot of it is in Perth currently. There is a last big Supply Convoy from Capetown on the way to Perth. After that Capetown will only supply India and i will retreat my Naval Support back to SE Australia. No need to be there any more and Australia is in very good supply with almost 4 Million Tons. If further supply is needed it will be shipped from West Coast.

Strategic Planning

I want to kick him out of Australia as soon as possible. Thats a fight i can fight as i dont need any CVs there. Northern Australia favors the Allies a lot as your Bombers work quite well on flat open terrain. So i want to fight there. In Central Pacific there is nothing i can do as i lack the carriers.

In Burma i will start an offensive to put some suppression on him as soon as possible. I need to help the remaining Chinese force and he should not be allowed to move 2000 AV from Burma to China to capture the rest of the Chinese Cities between China and Burma. But this will take a lot of time to prepare and get running. I expect at list 60 to 90 days for it.

I dont expect an invasion in the next turns as there are no preperation warnings and the tide has turned with sinking of the American CVs just some turn ago. Japan needs time to prepare and get an invasion on the way.

I have a Bde currently retreating through the dessert to Geraldtown and a US Division and two Bdes retreating through the Desert from Port Hedland. Will use the three Bdes and the Division to reinforce West Australia as they need to upgrade and get some replacement. This would give me 700 AV in Wester Australia which will have to be enought. I need the Australia Division right now as i need to defend North Australia as 3000 enemy AV are there.

If Japan is fool enough to raid P.H. it will be a victory. A fully naval base with all the upgraded flak of a lot of ships plus fighters...Good way of lose good pilots...

I think his best option is raid your supply lines...

Subwar in the Pacific

Post by beppi »

2/19/1943 - 2/21/1943

Had to spend a lot of time with my girlfriend on the weekend so i sumarize the three days to one reply.

Tonight ill try to get some screenshots to give and visual update.

Pacific

KB is missing right now and i wait where he will hit me again.

Picket ships finaly have established a line from canada to NW of Pearl. From there to N of Suva and aproximatly 15 hexes north of a direct line to Australia. I count this as quite important as i have not a lot of warning from Japanese Carriers right now.

Sank a SC two PBs and one xAK with subs around Truk. Like my subs quite a lot right now as they are the only offensive naval weapon i have left.

Two subs where damaged and will return to Pearl and Colombo to repair.

A BB TF containing Yamato bombarded Wake last turn. I expect and enemy invasion there. Bad luck but i cant do anything about it except swarming everything with subs. As only fragments of other units are there its no a big problem.

I was able to rescue some units from exposed positions. Lost around 5 xAP and 5 xAK in this operations but they are expandable.

Burma
Still attacking exposed Japanese Forces in Burma. On 20th there was a hughe air battle over Burma killing almost 100 planes, 50 Japanese + 50 Allied. A Chinese Hudson Sqad was badly hit losing 6 planes and a Brithis Wellington Sqad losing 5. Allies lost aprox 15 Planes OP losses on 20th. The following day no air resistance encountered so no losses in Burma.

I would like to start bombarding the enemy Airfields but as long as a Stack of my units is hunted by a much larger Japanese unit stack i have to hit them as hard as possible.

Australia
I continue to retreat my exposed forces from Derby. Two Tank units with 900 Tanks are hunting my retreating troops and on 21th a 18k Men stack left Daily Waters to the west.
On 21th i ordered all my 4E to Attack Derby and killed arpox. 15 Japanese 2E on the Ground. Lost only 1 4E in the exchange. My troops are still getting hammered as the last stack (2 Divisions) is 1 Hex out of P38G Range. As soon as they are in Range i will provide Cap.

Main Problem right now is that the enemy is closing by two sides so itcould be neccesary to retreat through the dessert to Tennant Creek. Currently 4 Divisions are on the way to tennant Creek (1 Aus, 1 Army, 1 Marine + Americal) to give some defensive potential there.

But if i want to mount an offensive in the next months i need to rescue the exposed northern units. There are almost 1,5k AV out of supply. I will search for some Air Transport units available and will send them to Australia in the next turns to provide some supply.

This is a screenshot showing the current situation in northern Australia and Burma.

Australia
In Australia about 1000 of allied AV and a lot of armored units and artillery are chased by tanks from the west and 2 divisions from the east. I will split my bombardment effort to bombard the tanks with 4E and the infrantry divisions with 2E. Only target is to push them to combat mode out of movement mode and kill / disrupt as much as possible.

Burma
In Burma currently my units are trying to escape to the junge. Some arty units are to slow and will get kicked this turn. I hop at least i do not lose them and that they are not destroyed. My ground divisions might geht to the jungle before the combat resolution phase.
Will continue to bombard them.

The red line is my currently planned defense line. 2000 AV in some divisions are still moving along the coast and will rejoin the fight in the center.

With the two armored bdes, the australian division and and british bde i will be able to form 1500 av in defense in the center. Need it very fast.

The red lines in china show where i will draw my lines of defense. Very good terrain and now with about 100 transports flying supply the supply situation stabilized. I cannot afford to lose this two remaining Chinese cities as if i lose them will have to fight a two front war in Burma.

Currently i have around 1200 pp and need 1000 more to buy another division from the west coast. It will be sent to australia asap.

A Japanese Surface fleet killed on of my Amphibious TFs trying to rescue some troops. All troops lost but as the remaining ships got cought by Betties. But losses where expected at least the parts of a division got destroyed and i can split the division again. 70 Sqads where lost, which hurts a little bit.

Day Time Surface Combat, near Duff Islands at 126,138, Range 25,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CA Takao
CA Atago, Shell hits 3
CL Kiso, Shell hits 1
DD Makigumo, Shell hits 1
DD Naganami, Shell hits 2, on fire
DD Kagero
DD Kuroshio, Shell hits 2, on fire
DD Oyashio
DD Shiranui

Allied Ships
DD O'Brien, Shell hits 17, heavy fires, heavy damage
DD Walke, Shell hits 5
DD Stuart, Shell hits 14, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAK Donald McKay, Shell hits 9, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
xAK Charles McCormick, Shell hits 19, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAP Rangatira, Shell hits 11, heavy fires, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
287 casualties reported
Squads: 23 destroyed, 5 disabled
Non Combat: 6 destroyed, 8 disabled
Engineers: 14 destroyed, 7 disabled
Vehicles lost 25 (14 destroyed, 11 disabled)

Burma
Enemy pushed me back to the jungle. At least both divisions where save and no further troop losses happened. One Arty Sqad was destroyed retreating. My Airforce again dropped some bombs on the enemy stack, no japanese air resistance this turn.

Australia
Situation in the north gets ugly. The tank armys are closing in quite fast. I think i will the weakest remains of a division to defend this spearhead. Two additional divisions left Derby heading along the road. 2E and 4E are quite strong in the desert killing and disabling almost 30 sqads this turn.

23/02/1943 - 26/02 1943

Japan could plan a last offensive either in Australia or in India. I got Intel that some para squads are preparing for bases in SE India. I will guard all my possible supply lines and lines of retreat with some troops. Same goes for Australia.

Pacific
23/02 sent a TF to New Zeeland to pick up some troops from there to ship them to Australia for guard duties. Need to guard some of the exposed bases in Western Australia against para drops.

25/02 sub sank an Japanese xAK near Oki Shoto in Chinese sea.
25/02 sub attacked a BB TF containing Hiei heading to Suva. Retreated my TFs which still try to evac some exposed forces.
25/02 3 CVE replenished SE of Canton Island from an AO Tf retreating to Pearl Harbor. Will move them into range of Suva and then transfer my Squads to Suva. As I have one Carrier and 4 CVE except the replenishment ones I cannot use them right now. But the fighters and TB will boost the defense of Suva.

26/02 Sub sank an SC near the coast of Japan. Would like to sink some bigger ships but SCs are good enough.

Australia
As more and more Japanese troops close in on my retreating Australian Army I start to move them through the dessert. From my calculations all troops except one division can be evacuated without a fight. For the last one I am not sure if it will retreat into the dessert. If not it will be lost. 4 Divisions are still moving on to Tennant Creek to establish a safe defense there.

Need twelve more turns to accumulate enough PP to unlock a division from the West coast to further reinforce Australia. In 7 turns I have enough xAP and xAK at Pearl to ship almost 400 AV in Tank units to Australia. Only Noumea is right now a little weak defended but need the troops in Australia first.

I am bombarding all Japanese Units which are closing in on my army on a daily basis to force them to combat mode out of move mode to slow their advance. 2E are quite good at killing units in flat terrain but I am running low on them. Will have to switch to attack bombers and I am not sure if attack bombers currently work.
With a P38G squad I upgraded a few turns ago I try to LRCAP some of my units which get attacked by the enemy.

25/02 caught some Japanese Nells bombarding my units

Morning Air attack on 3rd Australian Division, at 67,130

Weather in hex: Clear sky

Raid spotted at 30 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 11 minutes

4 plane(s) intercepting now.
Group patrol altitude is 39000

Also attacking 1st Australian Division ...
Also attacking 3rd Australian Division ...

Burma
Still just retreating my units and bombarding the enemy.
I shipped my BBs from Diamond Harbor to a more safe place. As I do not know where KB is right now I fear an attack.
I am shipping supply with everything I have to the two encircled Chinese towns. I have around 5k AXC there which is enough to keep them. At least I hope so. I do not want to give my enemy the possibility to move Units from China to Burma. Enemy is preparing another division for Chungking but I have almost 12000 AV trapped there. I get 300 Supply a day which is not enough but at least a little bit. 65 enemy units are besieging my units.

25/02
A Japanese force shock attacked my Chinese units but had no chance. I love to fight in the mountains and I like that the Japanese units are low on supply.

Ground combat at 68,45

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 13869 troops, 135 guns, 194 vehicles, Assault Value = 570

Defending force 23025 troops, 106 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 952

27/02/1943 - 07/03 1943

Some turns passed without any real spectacular actions and as i was busy in real life i wans unable to keep up with my AAR.

Prime target is still to reconsolidate the positions, do the proper TOE upgrades as most divisions across the map are still lacking any upgrades. Especially for Australian and US Army and USMC the upgrades of the devices (Squads) are quite strong.

Pacific
Overall I ship around a lot of troops to further secure read bases and everything else goes to Australia. USMC Divisions are getting their upgrades to the 43 Squad type, Army still needs some devices in the pool.

28/02
The spotted Japanese BB TF with Hiei bombarded Tabiteuea as the rescuing convoy retreated early enough to avoid combat. Just some supply and squad hits, no planes destroyed. There are still a PBY Squad and 2 P40 squads there to provide defense against the Betties when i rescue the remaining part of a Marine Bde and naval search is always good.

01/03
SS S-32 sank an xAK

03/03
S Steelhead sank an SC. I am wondering why I sink a lot of SC but nothing else with my subs.

04/03
A large xAK convoy carrying a lot of Armored units left pear and heading to Australia. This will give almost 400 additional AV in Tank units.

06/03

SS Narwhal got another SC

07/03
As the xAP finished their upgrade from xAK a large troop convoy with some base forces and some reinforces is currently loading at Pearl to head to Suva.

Burma
A lot of bombardment of all exposed Japanese Units on a turn by turn basis. No Japanese Air resistance. As I run low on 2E Bombers and only getting attack bombers which are practical worthless until fixes I am in some problems. 2E are just must better for short range bombardment than 4E as 4E need a lot of time to repair.

Focus currently shifted a little bit to the two remaining Chinese cities. I am retreating back all my units in a good order and soon I will only have the units in the two cities. 2500 AV in Kunming and 2200 AV in the City north of it. With the mountain defense bonus it should be possible to remain there for quite some time.

Supply right now can only be delivered by air and i am using all my available transport squads to supply the cities. I have a 400 AV Corps between Kunming and the neighboring city to keep the supply line between them open.

In central China i have 2 divisions left which can move on the map. I have split both of them in 3 sub squads and will try to interdict supply for the Japanese units and i will try to open escape routes for other much larger unit stacks.

27/02
Lost Nookanbah to 3rd Tank Division and 19th Tank Regiment. The dot hex was empty but i have to ensure that none of my troops get cut of from the rest as now these units are assaulting from the SW of Kunming.

05/03
Japanese air attacks have started on my units next to Kunming. As there is a P40 Squad there i was able to kill some Helens attacking without fighter support.

Morning Air attack on 63rd Chinese Corps, at 71,48

Weather in hex: Clear sky

Raid spotted at 48 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 15 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-49-IIa Helen x 11

Allied aircraft
P-40K Warhawk x 8

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-49-IIa Helen: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x Ki-49-IIa Helen bombing from 11000 feet
Ground Attack: 4 x 250 kg GP Bomb

06/03
Got some more Helens and Sallys with my leaking cap but most of the P40 will be gone soon.
So i retreat the remaining Sqad to a Base where i can refill it and send a new one in.

07/03
More air battles there. I think my enemy wants to capture this two towns but i will fortify as much as possible. Supply is running low a little bit and I am not sure if my transport planes can keep up with the supply loss through aerial bombardment.

Australia

I am still hammering his exposed units in northern Australia to give my units a chance to retreat. As i have a lot of recon units there I have quite a good info where everything is and where his planes are.

Most of the time we play a catch and run game there. I try to LRCAP my unit’s whenever he tries to attack them with bombers only. He tries to LRCAP my 2E and 4E at ranges where i cant provide escort. So air war from this point of view is quite balanced but the enemy losses on the ground on exposed units are quite high.

06/03
Saw a lot of bombers at drawing and ordered all my 4E to attack this airfield. During the next turn resolution almost 150 Japanese bombers did a night attack on Tennant Creek killing approximately 10 bombers 50/50 2E and 4E.

During the next day my 4E retaliated and killed 60 Betties, quite a good result. What worries me most right now is the lack of 2E Bombers as Attack bombers suck so much. I need a fix for this, i need i quickly.

07/03
The last of my retreating Australian unit went into the dessert to retreat to Tennant creek. With the reinforcement of the 2 divisions and the two block divisions north of it I think I am quite safe right now.

Two more divisions are on the way right now to Tennant creek but all of them need some TOE upgrades.

To further give some defense capability i sent a New Zeeland bde to Australia for guarding duties.

I feel for you re. attack bombers, that is a major screw for the Allies in 1943. [:(]

Did you stop the B25 factory in SF from upgrading?

No [:(] i took over the game at 07/02/1943 and the upgrade was already done. I would give a lot right now to downgrade the factory.

Ouch.

well, roll on the patch. I can't wait for working attack bombers, myself. [:(] I'm feeling the bomber shortage even with the B25 factory.
