A bit lost...

Post by JudgeDredd »

Looking at the manual, in the quick start section it says to select the GIUK Battleset - but I don't get anything like that. I am kicked off into a scenario I didn't even load...and when I go to File->Open, there's a load of folders show up, with nothing showing up in them with the HC? extension??

In fact, each time I load Harpoon Commanders Edition (Ultimate), I get a new scenario loaded - I don't get an option or list of scenarios or battlesets to choose from??

Panic over - clicking on NEW gives me a list of battlesets and scenarios. But why does it kick off in a random scenario? I don't actually know at the moment if that's a good thing or a bad thing...I'm leaning towards good feature :-)

It was some crazy decision that led to it being added as a 'feature' into one of the patches awhile back. I have no idea why, it's more of a confusing pain as we see here. [:D]

There is a checkbox to turn that damn thing off somewhere, can't recall right now.

Its the 'Enable Instant Action' checkbox found in the middle of the 'Select Battleset' pop up window at game start.

It was an early feature of the game that was disabled a few years back because it didn't work right. I liked the nostalgic feel and re-enabled and expanded the capability of the Instant Action to work across more than the original GIUK battleset that it was originally coded with.

I think it was introduced in the early Windows versions of the game and is present in HC97.

After my initial confusion though, I actually like it. It gives you the chance to try other scenarios in the maze of scenarios provided...so I like (though it did throw me at first)
