and the situation at the end of this turn.

In Finland that Soviet army continues to advance south, But since I spotted it on the first turn all surprise is gone and until this turn he may not have even realized I had seen it. My unit that spotted it was full of Scouts and I withdrew immediately. It is a good tactical gamble and shows initiative. Its just unlucky that I saw it so early or it might have been a real blow to me.

We took Leningrad in three turns total. This is much to easy IMO. I did have a year to build up my Finish army but the Russians had a year to raise their war footing also. I think Russia starts to weak and we should consider raising its starting war footing to 50%. because the Germans will already have 100% war footing and have teched up at least to infantry II by this time.

as it is I am cutting through the Russian Army like a hot knife through butter and their war footing is around 70% maybe near 80% by now.

In Turkey things have gone much easier than I could have hoped , I guess are speed has given us an advantage. But things are bogging down now as we have hit stiffer opposition. The Luftwaffe Got a Bloody nose doing recon missions this turn from a squadron of P-51 Mustangs

and our main objective is in sight. The town of Antioch.

Bit the Brits are finally showing up in decent numbers and it looks to be a tuff fight from here on out.
Not to mention I have to deal with the Royal Navy. The Luftwaffe is moving naval strike aircraft into the theater so we can expect some heavy fighting with the Royal Navy soon.

as you can see the Russian army is getting massacred and this was a slow turn.
with 100% war footing and tech II infantry and guns I am destroying the Russians. Maybe Rufus can show the Russian totals for all the turns.
My point is I think they start too weak.

I did no air strikes this turn at all, this was all land attacks with arty prep.

I do want to add that I was taking very high losses in my armor, the Russian tanks where fighting very well against my tech-I armor so I spent the last 3 turns saving up PP and just upgraded to Tech-II armor.

very interesting, shocked to see Leningrad fall to the finns so effortlessly, also shocked to see such slaughter in russia in 1942 invasion, also shocked to see germans advancing on two fronts turkey and russia, seems a two front war is a cinch

I'll look into bumping up the Soviets War Footing to 30% to start. I don't want to make too radical an adjustment from just 1 play through...as alot of factors can go into influencing the course of an individual game. Also War Footing is one of those things that has an exponential effect....increasing War Footing makes it easier to build enough PP's to increase War Footing more....so a little change up front can have a big effect down the road.

I agree completely with you Grumpy.
I am just looking at the fact Russia has had an extra year of game time to build up (around 24 turns) and they are still way behind, my thinking is that a year should bring them close to being competitive. As it is right now that extra year didnt seem to have hurt Germany much as I still have my technology advantage.
And as I push into Russia they lose production centers every turn which reduces their ability to build up.
Germany still has a very long way to go though since Russia is so vast.

At the same time Russia has lost close to 1800 infantry not to mention other units and that has to take some pressure off of its supply situation. I cant show the totals since they are mixed in with every thing else but maybe Rufus will show Russia's totals. The thing is so far I haven't lost enough units to be a concern for Germany at all and after a year I was really concerned I was in trouble.
I am fighting on three fronts (Norway,Turkey and Russia) with relative ease. The thing that will really put pressure on me is when Italy comes online since it will be behind in war footing. So I will have a real challenge to keep it safe until I can get it up to par.

Also since Italy has been so slow coming online I will be way behind naval wise to the west since it has most of my naval production capacity. The Axis still has a very long way to go.

These are the Russian losses at the beginning of June 42 (turn 70).

The relation between kills and losses of infantry is around 1 : 10, it has been worse in the beginning but is now slightly changing.

All air units have been send to save areas as I dont expect any of them to survive an encounter with the Axis fighters being two tech levels higher. The Tupolov were shot down in an air raid at the Black Sea coast of Turkey. Only once Axis and Russian fighters met in the skies and a Russian interceptor got lost.

To delay the advance of the Axis and get some time for building up the defences, I have deployed engineers to blow bridges and to destroy all facilities in town that are close to be captured. All units were ordered to stand and fight up to 100 percent loss, any retreat is forbidden. This might slow down the enemy and cause heavy damage to the towns due to fighting, leaving as low production and supply capacities for the enemy as possible. In the area far behind the front (or what had been far behind and is now getting in sight of the German spearheads) the enginers build up fortifications.
