Viability of War Plan Orange

Post by herwin »

War Plan Orange results...

The War Plan Orange scenario appears to favour the Japanese. For you JFBs out there, try it.

This is scenario 1 with variant victory conditions--if Japan avoids attacking Hawaii, Alaska, or the continental US, the war ends earlier. Here are the rules:

If the Allied player has a sea line of communications (a continuous path with air superiority) between North America and a fleet base in the Philippines and from there to a forward base in the Ryukyus, Korea, or Japan by 31 January 1944, he wins a decisive victory. If this requirement is met by 30 April 1944, this is a regular Allied victory. By 31 July 1944, a marginal victory, by 31 October 1944, a draw, by 31 January 1945, a Japanese marginal victory, by 30 April 1945, a Japanese regular victory, and by 31 July 1945 or later, a decisive Japanese victory.

If at any time, the Japanese player attacks a hex in Alaska, Hawaii (excluding Midway), or continental North America, the Allied player has an additional two years (just so) to meet his requirements for a victory.

You might want to replace Yamamoto with another Japanese admiral. It seems awfully clear that he converted a likely win of a limited war into a strategic disaster.

People will criticise my style, but I was trying to learn the tactical details of the new game while implementing the original American plan. After the fiasco at Kwaj, I was still trying to gain about four months on the advance towards Rabaul. For a draw I had to reach Okinawa by the end of October 1944, six months earlier, so I had to pick up that time somehow.

Reminds me of the Soviet planning for the invasion of Western Europe.

We're restarting using modified victory conditions and DaBabes.
