Research like all strategy games ... will be good?
certainly more control over projects, but it was a particular feature of dw!

there are two tracking and two countermeasure trees, dont know about the tracking ones, but the countermeasures one looks like holographic decoys! fun times ;D

I see there are race images on these techs. The holography ones look like they are exclusive to the Kiadians, tracking AI is Ugnari.

Likewise Mortalens have vectoring engines, Sluken have thrust engines, Ikkarus have repair bots.

It's a big step in the right direction, we need more race specific tech and eventually (maybe Distant Worlds 2) we'll have completely unique tech trees for each race.

I have to say though, this is probably more than I hoped for at this stage.

Looks like my family won't be seeing much of me this Christmas then... [:D]

While the battles the British fight may differ in the widest possible ways, they invariably have two common characteristics – they are always fought uphill and always at the junction of two or more map sheets.

Can´t wait! Is there a beta to test? I won´t charge for that, really! [:D]

Anyway, looks like most of my major complaints will be adressed, and then a boatload of new features are coming available, too.

Take my money, Take my money, I beg you [8D]

So far I am most happy about that tech tree and the fighters.  Awesome job there!!!!!!!!!!![:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]  I am curious if anything more was done to ensure that an escort was an escort and a frigate was a frigate in terms of tonnage no matter what design type or image the ship took on?  An escort should not be able to be a Capital Ship ( in terms of appearance or size ).  Also, you should not be able to choose a design from another race when you're designing your own ships.

I am also saddened that I do not see the concept of empire "territory" ( as in my space is blue and yours is red in the form of blobs extending outward from stars and connecting with each other to form your territory ).

I have to say that I was also hoping for more ship classes as well.

I do hope that you changed the "family" system so that each race now has their own ship style.  I would be most disappointed over that ( to the nth power ).

I'm very curious to see what has been done on the diplomacy side of things!!!!  I'm incredibly anxious!!!

I don't want you guys to get the idea that I don't like what I see....I do...I REALLY do!!!!!  I also want to thank you guys for your obvious hard work, especially the one who made that tech tree...that must have been tedious, and the speed with which you have put this together is simply awesome!!!!  Good Job guys...no matter what...I will still give you the highly sought after.......Simulation01 Award for High Concept!!!!!  How do you feel!??

We'll know more this upcoming week.
For now, we must endure Erik mercilessly teasing us with screenshots.
I think he enjoys it.

Looks like some good UI additions, but overall seems more like patch-changes than full expansion stuff, i look forward to the full features list next week :)

A complete UI overhaul, a full empire policy system, a brand new research system with tons of techs and new ship systems like fighters, point defenses, fleet systems, etc. seems like just patch changes to you? Wow.

Many moons ago I made a post about altering how fleets were handled in game. It looks like, with the advent of strike fleets and controls associated with putting new ships on patrol or in strike fleets, some of that post may have been incorporated. Makes me happy!

Guess opinions will differ. It sounds almost like a DW2 to me, IE more than an expansion, and cetainly more than a patch.

I just got this game within the last week. All these enhancements look great, and have me very excited. Being able to give guidelines to the automated systems is the big thing missing for me, and that seems to be addressed superbly. I'm interested to hear how the character of technology will change, as I was finding the hands-off approach intriguing. A deeper tree is most welcome, but I wonder if the game will lose something if we get the predictability and control of Civilization or a MOO2.

Any chance of a Linux/Mac port [:D]

I hear you can cross compile .NET with http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page

Very excited about the expansion in either case [:)]

G'day,

Looks good. Eric's screenshots only show the bottom and middle third of the Empire Policy settings screen.

Any chance of a look at the top third?

Cheers,
