Depth Charge Tracks on Cargo Ships etc

Here is a part of a photo from the aft of USS Sheridan (APA 51). You will note the DC Racks on either side of the ship. I have also seen this in data relating to some Japanese AO's.

My question is, if I mod these weapons into my ship, will they be used in the game against subs or as I suspect, this is beyond the capabilities of the game?






Other item, from the rear view of the 40mm's, I am thinking these two rear mounts are 4 X 4. The reason I ask is all data I have found only refers to 4 X 2's

All ships with depth charge racks will use them. You can't put an APA in an ASW TF, of course, but they'll use them.

They will be exactly the same as the Japanese AKs and TKs with DCs, they will use them in self defense, but you still can't use them as an offensive ASW TF ship, like Terminus said.

The main advantage to it is having extra DCs to throw at a sub with a transport TF.

Those look like 1.1in AA mounts and are those really depth charges?

They look like 55 gallon drums. The cable tie downs look like they would not readily lend themselves to a quick release in the event of a sub attack. And maybe its just me, but I'm seeing what appears to be filler caps a couple of them.

At first I thought there's no way that 55gal drums would be that exposed. Not that exposed dcs aren't dangerous but you'd have to think that a damage control officer would freak having those on deck. Having said that it would seem a quick and efficient way to unload fuel containers to a beachhead. It also looks like there's a filing/fuel line right next to that, althought that could be a fire main.

I don't know how quickly dcs sink. If those racks are anywhere close to midships the apa would have be moving at a pretty quick pace to avoid, um, collateral damage. There's a reason roll off dcs were located at the stern afterall. Anyone know if they were ever used irl?

Those are definitely 1.1's but I am not sure those are DC's.

They are depth charges, just surplus WWI depth charges. Looks to be a Mark I or possibly Mark II type.

Wonder if ship would been able to clear the blast radius if those were indeed released...

They do look to be located near the fantail, I would assume the ship could clear the blast radius or it wouldn't have been done.

I would guess that those are 55 gal drums associated with the hose and reel located amidships. The drums are probably for fueling landing craft. In the event of an attack, they would be jettisoned quickly to eliminate a fire hazard.
