Suggestions on the Luftwaffe

Post by ladner »

Was curious on the opinion of forum members regarding dedicating factories to research. Considering the meager resources in terms of production, is it worthwhile to dedicate factories to the production of wonder weapons, like the Me-262? I have just started a new 1941 campaign, using WiR 3.2 against the AI.

Guess, I should have used the search button, earlier. Still it would be nice to get .02$ worth from the WiR veterans here on the board. I may finally be up to the challenge for a first PBEM game.

Trying to get the Me-262 earlier than it's set arrival date has never worked for me. This was back when I was playing Second Front on my old Amiga 500, though. I think it's better to set another factory building Ju-88's, since they seem to always be in short supply later on. Also, it's preferrable to have your allies flying them, as the BR-20 and mixed bomber carry woefully small loads.
Jesus ...., with all respect. This closet germanism is allways killing me.

THIS ONLY WORKED IN THE AMIGA VERSION. SETTING THE RESEARCH EARLY FOR THE ME262 AND CONVERTING FACTORIES TO FW190A PRODUCTION ALWAYS WENT FAR FOR ME TO WIN AGAINST HUMAN OPPONENTS. EVEN IN THE LATE STAGE OF THE WAR THIS POLICY PREVENTED THE AMERICANS FROM BOMBING MY FACTORIES.
Germany's unforgivable crime before the Second World War was her attempt to extricate her economy from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.

Me262 vs FW190A / FW190D

Post by MikeB »

See my latest post on Factory limitation.

I expect that when the time comes, i will opt to continue my FW190 production. Why give up 4 game weeks of production to get 1/2 the number of planes into production....when the new planes are not significantly better than the old ones.

My reading of the documentation is that ME262 costs 9 production points...while the FW190 costs only 4 production points.

The FW190D is not available till 9/44 whereas the ME262 is available 7/44.

Choices.

I tested this once, and if it had a real effect on the appearance date, Gods only know.
I faintly remember the manual saying that for every 100 "units" it would supposedly build that craft, it would appear 1 week(=turn) earlier.
Of course, since the factories don't actually grow if they're producing an unavailable item, this seems extremely counterproductive. Switching a medium sized Bf 109 factory to a Me 262 would set its production to 1, and if it doesn't grow while the Me 262 can't be produced, it would take literally 100 turns so that the aircraft appears 1 turn earlier.
It may be that I'm mistaken, but that is how I've understood it. Thus you would have to convert large sized factories producing relatively expensive aircraft to have a relatively large 'size' for the factory researching the Me 262. I'd much rather have my 20+ FW-190s from this factory than a meager few research points towards the Me 262, please. :D

Factory Optimization

Post by Svar »

Back in the old days when you could convert a 15 production He-177 factory to a 30 production Fw-190 factory (Second Front I think), I tried to accelerate the Me-262 availability date. The best I could ever do was the early Fall of 1943. Once you were producing 150 Fw-190s per week you converted any He-177 15 production factory to a 13 research Me-262 facility until you had 8 seperate factories researching the Me-262. With total research at 104, every week you did that reduced the arrival date by one week. Plus any reduction you achieved by luck while you ramped up to the 8 Me-262 factories further reduced the arrival date.

With WIR there was a limit when converting a 15 He-177 factory to anything else so all you could do was convert the He-177 factories and keep twice as many Fw-190 factories. You couldn't be as aggressive so all I ever achieved was 2 or 3 months early arrival of the Me-262 but it was still possible.

I haven't played in over a year but with the new restrictions on production capacity I doubt it would be worth the effort to research the Me-262 as the cost would be prohibitive.
