Thank you Sly... guess you could say that I had my head up my butt while looking at the big picture, and didn't reading my own combat reports.
When you see the Southern Cross, For the first time
You understand now, Why you came this way
About the quietest day since the day of infamy. All units apart from an Aussie brigade, and a Brit AT regiment are safely into Johore Bahru. The Aussie brigade and the AT regiment were covering the hex west of Mersing, and even though they are in contact with a Jap tank regiment, they should reach Johore Bahru overnight.
In China in the northern plan region, a Ramjet is developing an offence. I will show the situation here in map form below.
Wake was successfully resupplied by a fast transport task force overnight. Also the ops reports state that the RO-boat that engaged the minelayers last night was sunk. Now I have to make the decision in the next few days of whether to extract the units on Wake or reinforce. I do not like reinforcing trapped units, normally you are just throwing away more units. To realistically defend Wake I need my carriers, and my carriers are no ware near ready for an engagement with KB. So I think the decision is probably already made up in the back of my mind.

Ramjet shelled Nanyang today to see what my troop numbers are, and I bet he got a surprise seeing 2230AV in the City. But then I got a shock also because his AV is 1522 outside the City, and not the 600 odd the detection level told me. While Nanyang is safe for now behind 3x forts, so I am moving 3x Corps out of the city to the east to guard the flank.
My Submarines had a good day in and around the East China Sea today getting 3 attacks on Merchantmen, and damaging 2 of them. But I wish Searaven had not surfaced in daylight to have a gunfight with a Jap freighter, because now she has to come home for repairs.
Tracker is telling me that the Jap destroyer Amatsukaze today sunk in a collision off Taongi. Taongi is a dot in the Pacific Ocean 7 hexes northeast of Kwajalein. The thing is Amatsukaze is one of their big new destroyers that normally escorts KB. So I am thinking that KB or a division of must be out in that area, maybe heading for Wake to have another go at taking it. His timing is terrible as I have cargo task force there taking off the Wildcats, and 2x fast pickup task forces on the way to take the troops off.
But that's war for yah. [:)]

Another quiet turn, too quiet which worries me. In Malaya the last of the infantry brigades are moving back into Singapore. While on Luzon the last of the infantry units are falling back on Bataan. I have not made a stand at Clark Field, because the forts have only built up to 1 due to the constant air-raids.
Some Enemy sub activity in the hex around Pearl Harbor, Ramjet maybe laying mines, or scouting maybe for another KB raid. Also my ASW task forces have been getting sub contacts to the east of Pearl Harbor. So he must still have a patrol line there waiting for the damaged ships from the KB raid.
Report of another of Ramjets big destroyers (Urakaze) sinking in collision off Taongi. I think I will take these reports with a grain of salt, but he maybe operating KB in that area. Which leads me to believe he is heading for Wake, or maybe even another raid on Pearl Harbor to catch my carriers.

Amphibious Assault at Sandakan
TF 199 troops unloading over beach at Sandakan, 70,88
Ramjet has taken Tavoy in Burma yesterday, but still no activity around Moulmein. I have been actively sending recon missions to Rahaeng and Pisanuloke in Thailand, but have seen no sign of movement there either. So perhaps he is waiting for reinforcements, or wanting for Singapore to be taken first. My plan is to withdraw north to central Burma when he shows up, as I consider Rangoon a trap.
In China He is withdrawing one hex south of Nanyang, then moving west toward Chengchow. It appears that he has withdrawn about half his force from in front of Nanyang. So tomorrow I will put in a deliberate attack with my 2000+AV stack, to see if I can damage some of his units. The Jap Force that was trying to work-round the left flank of Chengchow from the south, has given up that move because I now have a large blocking force in position. This Jap force is now advancing northeast directly on Chengchow, and is be joined by another force coming from the south.
The Dutch submarines operating in the South China Sea had some success last night, by attacking 2x large Jap AKs. Both these AKs were probably sunk, as sinking noises were heard after each attack.
More sub contacts east of Pearl Harbor overnight, but no confirm damage to both sides. In the last few day Jap submarines have fired about 20+ torpedoes at my DMSs and DDs in this area, but got no hits yet luckily.
Also an interesting and slightly scary sighting west of Johnston Island, which I will elaborate on below.

A Catalina flying out of Johnston Island sighted this force just to the west in the afternoon search. Is it a ghost sighting or the real thing, won't take the chance and will react. So Pearl Harbor is on high alert, and I am clearing all shipping in the area away. While the shipping already achored and being repaired at Pearl Harbor will stay there under the fighters and AA.
So what is his game then if it is KB, another raid on Pearl Harbor, or an invasion of Johnston Island. If it is Johnston, he won't take it easyly as I have reinforced the Island with a USMC defence batallion, and the forts are upto 2. Then if Pearl Harbor is the target, it will cost Him big this time. As there are over 170 fighters there now, mainly P-40B and P-40E, but 30 are P-38E.

When you see the Southern Cross, For the first time

My attack at Nanyang worked a treat, as it forced one of his divisions to retreat, also causing 4900 casualties to the Japs for the cost of 400 casualties. Also in China at Kweisui in northern China his attack from the City was stopped by my troops for about 300 casualties each.
The expected air strike from KB came to nothing in CENPAC, with todays air-search showing that he has moved away to the southwest of Johnston. I wonder what Ramjets game is here, what was he up to. Was it a sweep looking for my carriers, because of all the activity at Pearl Harbor lately (and there for radio traffic).
Here is a shoot of the Johnston Island area today -

When you see the Southern Cross, For the first time
You understand now, Why you came this way
The Malayan Army is trapped in Singapore now, as Ramjet took Johore Bahru today. I have managed by the skin of my teeth to get all my units into the Island. But my infantry is in reasonably good order, with only an Aussie and a Indian Brigade getting mauled in the Retreat. Singapore has over 70,000 supply, along with 5x full AA regiments, so it is going to cost him to reduce the place by air.
A Dutch sub got another troop carrying AK off Mersing this morning, that makes about 4x AKs in a week, gotta love those Dutch boats.
Ramjet bombarded the Bataan defences this morning with 2x Fuso class BBs, after clearing some of the mines with DMSs. The DMSs were all heavily damaged, and some will almost certainly sink, but they did their job. The BBs got off Scot-free, with only 1x hit between them. Luckily the Jap BB's shooting was poor, as they only disabled 2x 155.
Wake finally fell today, when his 2x naval SNLF battalions attacked again. These Jap units have been resting for some days after their landing, and first attack over a week ago. The rescue TFs to pickup my 2 units here were only a few hexes out , and would have picked them up tonight. I also had 4x PBYs on the Island doing a limited search for the rescue TFs, so I lost them too, but than's war.

Hello Dive
Looks like Ramm just overdid his offensive in China, 13Inf.Div at first line in Nanyang got (-) for experience (prep. so) it means exp >50, great victory for you at all. You also got out 4 US MarineReg(frag) from Bataan, can you evacuate all this unit??
And if may I ask: what is your main strategic decision with 18th UK InfatryDiv.?
He he and KB has some deep see exercises

Hi Sly, I think I just got lucky with the 13th Jap division, as Ramjet doesn't usually give me an opening like that. I was going to get the 4th USMC regiment to Cagayan to stiffed the defense there, but only managed to get a company size chunk of it out before he got sea and air control. The 18th Brit division is dug-in on Ceylon, and will stay there until late 43. Because I consider Ceylon and the Bengal as the two centers of gravity in the Indian theater.
LOG,
Main news is that KB is back again heading toward Midway from the southeast, and I think I know his game now. I reckon he is 'spoiling', that is raiding with the purpose of gaining temporary sea-control. He thinks probably that this tactic will slow my build-up of the sentinel Island around Pearl Harbor. He is too late, because all those Islands have been resupplied and reinforced already. But granted he will most likely catch some shipping around Midway, but thats war.
Only other real news was a fighter (A6M2) sweep over Kendari today, so the fight for the Banda Sea area must be starting. He will probably go for Ambon first, then Kendari, both covered by his land-based naval air. He will then transfer his air-cover to Ambon and Kendari, for his operations toward Timor/Darwin. So I will only have about 2x weeks from now, to complete my buildup at Koepang and Darwin.

I got some intel this turn that a Jap AK has part of the 38th division loaded, and is heading for Palembang. I have dispatched 2x Dutch torpedo boat squadrons there as a result, and will position the Dutch cruiser force for a strike. I have also repositioned the 7x Dutch Submarines that I have operating in the Gulf of Siam and the north Java Sea. I suspect that Ramjet will cover this landing with his light carrier force, so will wait-and-see before committing Dutch airpower, as I want to save that for Java.
Meanwhile his carrier force north west of Pearl harbor moved toward Laysan Island overnight. This Force had 3x supply or tanker TFs under it's noise in the morning, but only managed to spot one TF of 1x AK and 1x DM, while the strike it launched only managed to sink the AK. I am starting to think this carrier force only contains 4x of KB's carriers, which begs the question where are the other 2. My feeling would be they're in the southern DEI, to support his move on Ambon and Kendari when it comes.

Ramjet has started his move on Palembang methinks, as his CVL force lunched a strike in some of my light-craft off the Palembang River mouth. This carrier force is either going to soften-up my airfield and troops at Palembang, or maybe sweep south into the Java Sea. I wish that Repulse was ready to have a crack at his CVL/CA's, but She is still repairing. I am going to hold the Dutch Air Force for now, as the A6M2's on his CVL's will just massacre them for no-good purpose.
Meanwhile in the Central Pacific his heavy carrier force/division is still operating northwest of Pearl Harbor. I am beginning to think that he maybe trying to isolate Midway for an invasion. Todays air-searches have detected a Jap heavy cruiser force, which appears to be on closing on Midway from the southwest. If it is a full-blown invasion, I am going to resist the temptation to use my carriers or other major surface units. As I consider Midway as an expendable outpost, and a liability for him to keep supplied, meaning an easy training target for me. Also my carrier air-groups are not ready yet, as their experience is just to low.

uff heavy AAA fire over Singapore. Do you see now his TFs steaming Palambang, after intel info??. Looks like this ligt carrier tf is some kind of air cover in this area.
p.s I was thinking you gonna close your AAR due the word "closed" in AAR main title. But a I see The Good Times still rolls
Hi Sly, not I meant closed to Ramjet, I'll just say no Ramjet like everybody else.
Yes I think it is the start of the Palembang operation. But I don't think Ramjet will want that CVL force sitting off the Sumatran Coast with all the Dutch subs around. He might hit the airfield tomorrow, then head south on anti-ship. He might also Hope if he comes south that the Dutch Air force will bleed itself white against his A6M2's.
Yes the AA regiments at Singapore are massacring his Lily's and Sally's, but that happens when you bomb from 6000feet against a heavy AA concentration.

You understand now, Why you came this way
Ramjet's Palembang invasion forces are on their finals run-ins a couple of hexes out. His CVL force is still to the northeast of Palembang, but launched no strikes today. Their is not much I can do to slow him down, apart from the 6x Dutch submarines in the area. It appears from intel that he is using his 38th division, so Palembang will fall quickly.
His 2x Fuso class BB's bombarded Bataan again last night causing some casualties, and I hit both ships twice, but only with light weapons I think. I would have thought that the big guns at Bataan would have been doing more damage, but they appear to be shooting badly.
His heavy carrier force operating northwest of Pearl Harbor appears to be withdrawing toward Truk today. There is no sign of the his heavy cruiser force that was closing on Midway yesterday. But I did pull my PBY's encase he bombarded the Island last night, so there could be an invasion force still approaching and I can't see it.
THE SUBMARINE WAR,
The Dutch submarine O16 launched 4x torpedoes at the Jap AP Kongo Maru just west of Tawi Tawi. The Jap ship and 2x escorting SC's were heading south out of the Sulu Sea. But unfortunately all 4x torpedoes missed, and O16 was able to safely evade the escort.

In Burma I am pulling my last Battalion back from Moulmein to Pegu, as Ramjet now has 5x ground units 1x hex south of the town. I will only stay in Pegu with 2x brigades of the Burma division till he arrives across the river. Peru is too easily outflanked, and I don't want these 2x Brigades retreating into Rangoon, they are to fall back on Mandalay. I will withdraw the 2x brigades of the 17th Indian division from Rangoon when he arrives in Pegu, these brigades will fall back on Akyab.
I launched some spoiling attacks in China today, and wished I hadn't. I told myself not to, but hawk in me said I had overwhelming numbers. It was also against my overall strategy in China, I want to draw Him onto the Cities and rough hexes, and make him attack. I did cause Ramjet some heavy casualties though, but I lost 1.5 to 3x as many.
In the Pacific Ramjet is landing at the Shortland Islands in the Solomons, and also took Nauru Island today. Both Nauru and Ocean Islands are undefended, as I managed to evacuate the Aussie units earlier in the war. His large carrier task force is now west of Johnston Island and heading for the Marshall's I think. I had a report today that a PBY put a bomb onto a HIRYU class carrier, but won't take the report too seriously.
THE SUBMARINE WAR,
USN Seawolf fired 2x torpedoes at the Kozui Maru north of Amami Oshima overnight, both fish missed, and the sub safely evaded the escorts.
Dutch KVII launched 2x torpedoes at Yamakisam Maru off the Palembang mouth last night, and got 1x hit with fire and heavy damage reported.
But the highlight was when the Dutch KXVI attacked the AO Naruto south of Sangi Island today with 4x torpedoes, 1x fish hit it's target causing heavy fires, which hopefully means the cargo is on fire.

Ramjet took Chengchow in China today, retreating the defenders back to Loyang. I was expecting it to fall, and will now hold Loyang as long as possible. I will also reposition my flanking forces back to protect LOC with Loyang.
Palembang also fell to him today, with a full division attacking. So I suspect that the Oil fields, and refineries will be largely undamaged. Southern Sumatra is a forgone conclusion with a full division, but that division will be tied-up for sometime.

Ramjets ground units outside Moulmein have started moving on the town, as I suspect he as spotted me moving north across the river. He is also moving to assault Singapore, so I assume he has all his infantry in Malaya coming across.
A force of 6x Dutch torpedo-boats attacked is assault shipping up the Palembang River last night. They managed to torpedo a Jap AK, and put another AK on fire, for the cost of 1x damaged torpedo-boat.
Ramjets landing force at Tarakan put in a deliberate attack today, but the defenders held getting 1 to 2 result, with 108 Jap casualties verses 54 Dutch. but He also took Morotai today, which I was not defending.

Very quiet day, with no ground unit activity at all. The Dutch torpedo-boat flotilla that had attacked shipping at Palembang, kept bumping into Jap SAG's as it was withdrawing to Java. If the torpedo-boats had of withdrawn the route they were ordered to they would have been OK. But instead they chose there own way home, and lost 3x boats doing it their own way.
Bataan was plastered again today by about 80x 2E bombers total spread over 2x raids. This has been happening everyday now for about 2x weeks, and is really knocking down the supply. Ramjet managed to sink all my resupply efforts to Luzon, so I only have around 37,000 tons at Bataan.
SUBMARINE WAR,
The Dutch KXV attacked AK Seki Maru east of Bangka with 2x torpedoes overnight, getting 1x hit leaving the AK heavily damaged, and on fire.
I'm had planned to be recording Ramjet's submarine attacks in this section too, but 'honestly' there haven't been any for ages. So I've come to the conclusion that he is up to some extremely cunning plan with his subs.
