The Sun also rises, and sets - Australia
I have not yet seen the beginning of the Japanese aggression here in our Southern Continent, but we have gamed a Japanese invasion in our staff colleges. Soon we will receive the actual reports of what they have done. Our nation will rise to give them a blow.
We know the IJN will be very potent, and respect the Japanese air forces too. The land air component available to us will be very limited, and we will be a long while building them up. At sea we have the big advantage of major ports in theater, and will try and keep our fleets in repair as much as possible. We expect the Japanese to make aggressive gains in the early campaign, but hope to build up our forces with American help.
Supply is critical to both forces, and we will try to frustrate the Japanese on this "front" too.
We are well aware that the Japanese Commander is not afraid of a amphibious assault, and expect side campaigns, as well as a strong push in the center of our land. It will be a long campaign.

We are starting with a radical reconfiguration of our military resources. We have a huge country, and to defend it we need a way to move troops quickly to threatened areas. Our soldiers are being redeployed to work on transportation infrastructure.

We were blasted in the Coral Sea, losing a carrier, three battleships, and seven cruisers. All we have to show for these major losses are four submarines. We can only hope the near misses and hits our pilots report are true. We have run the fleet down to the Tasman Sea, but we know the powerful IJN forces can catch us and fear them.
We landed a new division at Sydney and Melbourne, and put more investment into our transport infrastructure.
The Japanese are very aggressive, and we may be on the run at sea. However the position at Elliot looks sturdy,

Bad news at sea, again. We lost the Idaho, and our whole fleet is in terrible shape. We left our strongest cruisers in the Tasman Sea, where we can only hope they will be difficult to find. We have Fighter Command nearby, if they can help at all. Our carriers are vulnerable, in port, with the enemy fleet in range, and we could lose them both right here, but at sea they are vulnerable too. We are frightened about the possibility that reinforcements will be caught at sea. This is very rough stuff.
On land we went for strength over space, which has left us concentrated near Elliot, but the L2 regiments will be hard for the Japanese to attack, and we hope to stop any encirclement.

What a disaster, over ten thousand men drowned, and eaten by sharks, as the mighty Imperial Japanese Navy has supplied a massive fleet train to support their seven carriers. The fleet train allows the IJN to maintain a constant presence at sea, and the naval forces there are constantly resupplied, and potent week after week. The Allied Naval Staff insists this cannot be, and maintains that the IJN must withdraw and replentish, and thus have sent another division in transports to these bloody waters. We can only hope the staff knows something we do not, as evidence of Japanese carrier air is plentiful.
On land Elliot is in severe danger of being cut off.
The war in Australia is going very badly. They say the Japanese commander studied in the USA. He learned well!

Our troops at Elliot are battling to try and link to supplies. We have brought a battalion to Tennant Creek to help them, or to defend that spot if needed. We hope that we can link the two locations, and continue to move troops there till we can hold the very aggressive Japanese back.
Our convoy of American troops was damaged, but we managed to get six battalions to port. We are holding on by the skin of our teeth, and have little idea what the enemy has available. We know they have a armored division, which we have not seen any sign of yet. It will be very influential when available at the front. We are under huge pressure, and welcome every respite.

We are down to a single carrier as one was lost under repair in Sydney. No repair there now, as the port has been damaged. The IJN still has seven carriers to our single one, and we are in danger of being swept from the seas. We are trying to fight a convoy through, as the American 6th Infantry Division is arriving. Losses will be very heavy. The enemy has a large force in the Tasman Sea, and week after week it pounds us.
Inland the position at Elliot is crumbling, and we have begun to build a position at Tennant Creek, but we wonder if this is also too far advanced for a successful defense. The forces that have encircled Elliot will be at Tennant Creek in a matter of weeks. The enemy was very quick, and we must not allow a pocket to form again.
The situation is very, very serious.

Agent S, is it worth considering a "map names mod" from those of us who know the local spellings? Or aren't there enough to worry about?

Our navy managed to get eight transports through to the continent. Against the formidable power of the Japanese navy this is commendable performance. We also found and sunk two submarines with land based airpower.
In the center of the country we have rushed more troops to Tennant Creek to defend against the eventual fall of Elliot. We want to make the front we defend as wide as possible to prevent the Japanese from gettng around us and cutting our supplies. The Japanese have received another armor division, which will be big trouble when it arrives at the front. Tennant Creek is very far from supply, which means we must defend it as a supply base for the defenders to succeed. It will be very hard to extract our forces if the enemy manages to capture it.

Our airforces performed admirably against the enemy fleets, but Fighter Command was getting destroyed, and had to pull out of the battle. We have brought as much force to bear near Tennant Creek as we can, but the enemy is very strong there.

The Japanese have been building up amphibious transport from all over the Pacific, and bringing them into Australian waters. The more we bring into the center of the country, the more we worry about the seas surrounding the continent.
We did real damage to the IJN over the last two turns, but that has not rebuilt a navy for us. The enemy will surely use the amphibious transport they have built up, and we will need weeks to defend our extensive coasts.

The enemy has loaded amphibious transports but we were not able to find them. They worry us, a lot, and we are not pleased with our defense of the coast. The IJN withdrew, so we took a chance to get vulnerable aircraft away from the coast as a raid on them would be something very painful. Our fleet is at sea but very weak. We could use reinforcements of naval vessels.
We have been building infantry battalions, cheap and weak, but they can slowly address our coastal vulnerabilities. The first of them will be trained next week.
Is the enemy pushing full tilt in the center, or has that become a diversion, and will landings announce a new operation. The next month will tell the tale there.

This is such a long campaign, 314 weeks, and it is hard to remember that in the early part of the game. The loss of Elliot bothered us, but with the defense of Tennant Creek giving us a more stable position we can look a bit at the challenges facing the enemy.
1. They have many units but a very limited area to deploy them.
2. The near destruction of our fleet, incurred significant losses to theirs.
3. We are on home ground, and can convert to regiments.
4. We have a lot of units.
5. We can transport them pretty quickly.
6. At least for now the defensive is good enough.
We were able to cover three exposed ports this turn, and will have a battalion per turn built for the next four turns, and intend to keep this low level of construction up.

Catalinas located and destroyed three Japanese subs. Inspiring work by the Black Cats.
The USN sent four much appreciated cruisers, which allowed us to pull some out for repair.
The enemy will have a far harder time invading now, as we have some extra troops on the coastal defense front. The situation at Tennant Creek - Cloncurry is also far better.

RE: The Sun also rises, and sets - Australia
I do not see Gary allowing them to become "depleted and fragmented"!
He just got a significant increase in his naval forces. As I said I got four cruisers, and the Tasman Sea is filled with Allied transports just now. If I had known they were coming I would have left the four cruisers that I pulled in for repairs out there. The credit for damage to the IJN goes to my land based bombers. They have made Gary abandon the blocking position in the Tasman.
What do you think his strategy will be? He has 8 ATP, and some significant surface bombardment forces. I do not have every city garrisoned, but the ports are at least occupied. Surely he must invade, and I expect him sooner than later. Our position in the center is getting more solid each turn, and defense there will be tough to overcome.
Three hundred turns! What will the nature of the campaign be? Can the Japanese Empire provide the resources to match the Allies? I doubt it, and think they have seen their best days.

We are building up a position at Cloncurry, which is done in anticipation that Tennant Creek will prove a tough nut for the Japanese to crack. If the Tennant Creek lines hold the enemy almost has to turn east, but Mount Ida and Cloncurry are at the very limits of supply from Elliot, and even from Tennant Creek. The Japanese will have a very, very hard time dislodging us.
At the start of the week we had 27 transports in the Tasman Sea, and the enemy moved a strong SAG there. However, we landed 26 transports, and the other is in harbor, and our land based bombers hurt the SAG very badly. We are beginning the very expensive task of rebuilding our cruisers. The IJN will be very disappointed with the losses they suffered this week.
