Fighting ship fire damage?

Post by flankspeed »

What affects how fast fires are put out? Is it only crew xp and or leadership skill?
What about port size or naval support? Is it better to stay docking in a TF or disband at the port?

Just had a ship burn up while docked in a level 3 port. Started with 17 fire damage...five days later it was 65 and it sunk right next to the darn dock...what gives? Terror class CM with 40/20 crew xp and poor leader btw.

Thanks

Crew ex, bigger port, naval support and AR ship will help fighting fires. Also I always disband burning ships, and if you check disbanded burning ships you can see there is "fire fighting"going on.

Port size does matter, had some 800ton DMS's at soerabaya survive solid 250kg bomb hits, with having sys and fire in the red (both 70+). This is normally more than enough to sink japanese vessels. Perhaps tonnage vs port size has also something to do with it?
Apart from that, there's also the roll of the dice, of course.

I think the best way to profit from ports is to disband, although my evidence is purely anecdotical, but it feels that way.

IMHO, when you disband, ship starts to gain help from port facilities (port size & naval support), which of course helps with fire fighting.

Rising water levels against the hull help, too. Eventually, the fire goes out when the ship goes under. Don't worry. [;)]

Reminds me of when my daughter played SimCity many years ago. She was about 15. She's 35 now. She had raging fires that she couldn't put out, having built no fire departments, so her solution was to start a flood. It worked.
