Acronyms run amock

Post by Numdydar »

One thing I constantly run up against is the sheer number of acronyms involed in gaming. WitPAE has done it's share to continue the trend. While not the dimest blub around, it has taken me a while to translate these into words I can understand [:)]. Obviously either I do not a) play enough, or b) read the forums enough, lol.

I took me awhile to understand the following

DEI = Dutch East Indes (Not sure why this was a mystery as it makes perfect sense now)
KB = Initial CV task force that bombs Perl Harbor (which I understand most Jap players keep togeather for as long as possible)

However, I still have issues understanding the following

JFB = ?
Baby KB = ? (is this the CVL fleet at the start?)

If anyone has other acronyms that they would like to add, I would love to see them as long as they are sepecifcly AE related. Who knows, it may make me a better player, lol. God knows I can use the help [:D]

Thanks in advance.

JFB= Japanese fanboy
AFB= allied fanboy
Baby KB = this is the CVL units at start.
KB = Kido Butai refers to the grouping of the fleet carriers

There used to be a post on the WitP site that had a list of the acronyms but I couldn't find it.

Bugger, I've got these all wrong

HI = Home Islands (or Heavy Industry: you've got to rely on context in this case)    Hawaiian Islands
LI = Light Industry                                                                                        Light Infantry
WC = West Coast                                                                                         Toilet (Bathroom to you yanquis)
CBI = China/Burma/India                                                                                 Central Bureau of Investigation  (India's FBI)
SEAC = Southeast Asia Command                                                    Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff,
IO = Indian Ocean                                                                                         Yep, I owe $millions
PP = Pago Pago                                                                                             Prep pts, I have never seen PagoPago like this
PM = Port Moresby                                                                                         After Lunch
PH = Pearl Harbor                                                                                           Something to do with alkalines

I'll have to re-read all those AAR and they might make more sense!

Funny, I also always referred to political points as PP.

Also:
WTF - Happens when KB shows up on WC and bombs AF without CAP

GGG - Frequently used by my boss to stress some specific content in an email which noone finds funny except for himself
and contains more work when put in the correct context with a high probability.

LYB - Japanese in general, for a more detailed and politically incorrect description please refer to Cap. Mandrakes
and Lord Admiral Spriors AAR.

SR - Sir Robin, often refers to an Allied tactic used in the DEIs and Burma which requires mostly fast movement and
includes many aspects of warfare except actual combat.

RTFM - Polite response to a question, either exposing the OP as lazy bast*** in his information gathering or exposing the responder
as lazy bast*** feeling the neccessity to give an answer but not the answer.

WTF is BOHICA? [:D]

"Bend over, here it comes again."

(Referring of course to the nice doggie coming for his treat.)
(If the nice doggie has been through any sort of military basic training.)
(I thought BOHICA was universally known to all ex-military types.)
(And any civilians who have worked in a bureaucracy.)

Thanks Bullwinkle, I will remember this until a situation arises where I can use it in my AAR.
Very sophisticated.

Very sophisticated.

Another militaryism, maybe just USAian, is "The Seven Ps" (PPPPPPP.)

Proper Prior Planning Prevents P**s Poor Performance.

Very AAR-worthy.

Issue with that one is you have to be able to count.
Which I usually have a hard time to do, when everything looks the same.

PPPPP would result in generating the wrong impressions I guess
