Into the Bowels of The Dragon's Lair

Post by a1981stingray »

A new war has begun again....

and a new AAR with a twist...

After careful review of the previous broadcasts [AARs], the Allied Intelligence Departments have determined that the enemy must be using an "enigma decoding machine" and a "crystal ball' for RGIJN to be so successful against all Allied command decisions in the South Pacific War.

Buna - Allied Base Commander's have not reported at their designated time. It's possible they may have some technical difficulties with their radio equipment in the bloody jungle environment.

Gili-Gili - Allied Base radio communications officers have not responded to Port Moresby Base HQ. Will keep trying to establish contact in order to coordinate delivery of supplies.

Lunga - Allied base radio communications have intercepted IJN radio traffic of IJN Fast Transports unloading troops on the shores of Guadalcanal. SOPAC HQ have been unable to contact them since. Search Planes from Espiritu Santo report smoke and fire to most Base Structures.

Several Fast Transports leaving Brisbane for Port Moresby decided halfway through their trip to veer off course and travel North thru the Straits near Gili-Gili. It appears that their Commander still had "Destination Orders" Port Moresby locked in and "Home Port Orders" Townsville locked in, but the course plotted of "yellow hexes" are going to Lunga......

The next several days continue to bring rain and thunderstorms to the area with all air operations cancelled. This lull provides the Allied Commander a few days to transfer some supplies via FT TFs, hopefully, without the IJN search planes spotting the location and direction of transports. This is also bad since the IJN CV TFs will not be reported due to all aircraft being grounded.

May 18, 1942

Allied Search Planes from Cooktown spot several IJN Surface Combat TFs heading towards the coastline.

Allied Air Groups from Cooktown and Cairns airfields radio in reports of several ships hit, on fire, and a couple heavily damaged.

Some disturbing radio broadcast from Port Moresby HQ along with some confirmations from a skipper of an Allied Light Cruiser. It appears that the IJN landed on the PM beach with a Naval Garrison early this morning.

The Non-Combative unit stationed at PM requested immediate pickup from any Allied units within range.

Since they have no weapons to defend themselves from the IJN assault troops. The white flag was raised several times only to be riddled with holes from JAP automatic guns.

Several of the "Allied" workers threw glass bottles filled with highly volatile and flammable liquids towards the approaching IJN troops, with great success.

IJN radio broadcast intercepts were decoded [ PM docks loaded with crates and barrels of "fire-water" and large bushels of sugar cane. Resistance is minimal at best. ]

Allied Command SWPAC HQ has ordered all available FT TFs to immediately evacuate the remaining BF sugar cane rum workers and any and all processed barrels.

The Captain of the Allied Light Cruiser reported that IJN Troops shot several "Allied" workers in the back as they ran down the docks towards the awaiting ship, and then proceeded to strip the canteens from the dead workers and drink.

South Pacific weather is completely unpredictable and hampers all possible operations with any timetable. It's possible all workers at the PM Sugar Cane Rum distillery have been taken prisoner or killed. It's hopeful that they are seen as highly skilled workers and can hold on long enough for the Allied Offensive of Kanga Force to arrive.

Important announcement:

The Empire is at War!

Our forces are ordered south deep into enemy area, just to turn them into friendly, peaceful areas under the prospering reign of His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan.

The first few steps to achieve this are already done, with some good success. All initial objectives taken and the entire Solomons plus the Louisades Archipelago and Papua are now in japanese control. Now our victorious Navy & Army forces are about to set the perimeter for all future operations as determined according war plan TY42-1306....

Even luck we can call our ally, since last morning one of our subs prowling off the enemy main base Noumea got a very nice glimpse - and kicked the first USN carrier out of the war, at least for months!

Another hit out of a solvo of four fishes sunk an New Zealand tugboat right next to the big flattop...! They will miss that vessel soon enough....

message picked up

Post by RGIJN »

a few days ago, this bottle (with a desperate message inside) was picked up by one of our destroyers operating in the Gili-Gili area.... the container is believed to be a rum bottle of a very special brand: "Kanga´s Jungle Fever" [:)]

cutting the enemies supply lines

Post by RGIJN »

last days saw little actual combat aside from minor invasions of tiny Islands by our forces. But our submarines are keeping a sharp eye on the shipping lines of the enemy. Results are quite satisfying, at least half a dozen AKs & APs are reported sunk, along with their precious cargo load.

Image

The enemy tries to delay our buildup with lots of mines, but to almost no avail. Lost one small freighter so far to these bothering eggs.

Allied Forces high-flying

Post by a1981stingray »

Brief Update from Allied Commanders and HQ.

Imperial Forces continue to mount unprecedented assaults against the Allied front lines. Allied Bases fall with little resistance to the might of the Japanese Empire. The US Navy's Fleet and Allied Support ships move around under the cover of thunderstorms and night to avoid all possible detection. There have been many reports of IJN submarines lurking at every port near Australia. It's possible these forward scouts are reporting the positions of the Allied Fleet.

May 29, 1942

A entire week goes by as the Base Force Engineers at Port Moresby continue to use bamboo and coconut shells to repel the IJA attacks.

Unfortunately, time has run out for these troops as the Allied Fast Transports of Cruisers and Destroyers pull up alongside the docks at midnight. No one was left behind for the IJA to take prisoner and interrogate.

It was reported by the Captains of these fine Navy ships that IJN Invasion Task Forces were spotted entering the harbor as they were leaving. Allied Command implements the Dusk / Night / Dawn maneuvers for all ships that will be moving LCUs.

I guess this means I get to play golf for the next several months as Yorktown sits in Noumea dry dock. There were no casualties reported from the Long Lance hit the Yorktown had from the sneaky sub.

It must be reported from Allied Command that this Air Combat Task Force was completely surrounded with over 100 escort ships from CA, CL, DD, PG, SC, MSW, DMS, and in addition, this task force was following a massive Troop Transport Task force of 25 APs of the largest variety of 3K each.

The Emperor probably will reward this sub captain a medal or an extra supply of Saki or maybe some unfiltered rice wine. It's too bad they are not part of the Port Moresby invasion group, they could have enjoyed some of that Kanga's Jungle Fever rum rum rum...

June 7, 1942

In other news, a daring Allied trap was successful today. Port Moresby was put back into Allied control. All IJA troops were reported running back across the Owen Stanley mountains towards Buna.

For most of June the weather has been rain, thunderstorms, and severe, with only a couple days of clear skies. This has proved very valuable to the Allied Command. Their operations have so far been very successful. If the weather had been clear, it's possible that the Imperial Forces would have had better success with the Air War.

The weather has changed direction again to thunderstorms for almost a week. So the Imperial Forces decided to use the IJN big guns to deliver some shells into the jungles.

Naval bombardment of Koumac, at 47,63

Allied Command had a new book published prior to the outbreak of war. It had a chapter on building fake structures above ground and having Base operations underground using tunnels and bunkers.

July 10, 1942

The mini-KB was sighted and tracked from North of Koumac to just a few miles West of Luganville for approximately 7 days. There replenishment task force was also spotted several miles behind them. This could have been easy pickings for the Allied Submarine Fleet, since their nets have been cast near Guadalcanal and San Cristobal. The Allied Subs have been dispersed in a wide array in order to better catch the mini-KB as it returns north under the cover of land based fighter cover.

Mid July 1942 - 18" fishes for Oz

Post by RGIJN »

the air war gains on intensity now...

While the Allies are deploying very carefully and avoid to stage any operations beyond their own shrinking perimeter, they are quietly developing bases in spots which aren´t even marked on our intelligence maps (these dating back to the german colonial era of 1914 anyway)...

However, due to superb reconnoitering of our submarine force we were able to locate their hidden caves during another supply run. Type 1 land based "Rikko" (aka Betty) bombers took on some 18" torpedoes at Vunakanau airdrome near Rabaul and gave them a good pummeling.... One transport and one escort were sent to the bottome instantly. At least one more ship is believed to be set on the beach, since many people were seen salvaging some goods from the wreck... these things must be precious! What might that be?

the enemy is reportedly still losing ships due to wrecks sinking down to the bottom of Rockhampton harbour... Seems worth to send some salvage teams there after the war!

In the meantime, one of our subs operating in the New Caledonia vicinity failed to respond to its base. Maybe they got drunk on some hidden spot, or is it really possible we lost it at all??? [&:]
