Weak AI, too many unnecessary infantry division

Post by qy_panzer »

I'm playing China 1937, what is annoying is, the AI allies produces tooooooooooooooooo many infantry divisions.
E.g. the Shan Xi army really leads to great difficulty for republic of China to move units, since the land are occupied by so many Shan Xi divisions.
What's also ridiculous, is that there are very few Japanese infantry in China, but full of Manchukuo army... It's so un-realisitic.
Could this be improved?
Thank you very much!

This is the problem I met.
Shan Xi troops everywhere, republic of China almost unable to move units...
It makes me really feel boring about the game.[:@]

This might be improved in couple ways.
1. Reducing available Production Points
2. changing purchase scheme
3. changing technology scheme
4. Increasing difficulty
5. increasing upkeep costs

All those values can be modded in the scenario files. I can take a closer look for the next patch.

Thanks doomtrader,
I would like to give another suggestion, I think the game is quite interesting, the combat is a bit SSG style, e.g. including odd and overrun, it is quite nice!
Why not let the troops continue to attack after "overrun". Because in China 1937, it's slow to advance, since there are several lines of enemy ahead.
Unless you have all armor troops, otherwise, you can only advance one hex each turn, since the AP is too low.
Then everyturn, you do not have much choice, but simply repeat the advance.
If we could let overrun attackers attack again, then the tactics will be more interesting.
Besides, if it's possible to increase the AP a bit (now the infantry troops can move very short range, you can not let the 2-nd line infantry to fill the gap (where the enemy standed just now and then were erased) and attack.
In one word, it would be nice to introduce continuous attack feature, and the tactics might be more interesting.
Many thanks again.

With increase of the Land Warfare level each attack costs less AP, and the units are gaining more AP.

So when your Warfare Level is 0, infantry division has got only 3 AP, and attack costs 3 AP, but when your Warfare Level is 5, infantry division has got 5 AP and attack costs only 1 AP.

Of course in the China 1937 campaign, reaching warfare level 5 takes a lot of time with standard settings.

I really don't understand your map as there is no way Japan couldn't captute most of China.
The AI doesn't build those troops.
You must be using the cheat key as the Republic can not have over 3600 PP's and 39 STP's

No, those troops are not Japanes, it's ShanXi of China troops.
I didn't use any cheat key.
You can try to start China 1937 scenario, normal difficulty.
Then you will see that Republic of China receives ~ 150 PP per trun, and Shan Xi around 60PP per turn.
Maybe this is a scenario PP design bug?

Wow, that's a shocking screenshot. Scenario's way out of whack.

If I were you, I would go into the data files, which are easily moddable, and simply either:

1) drastically reduce the PPs per turn for the offending AI country
2) drastically increase the cost of purchasing new units

A more permanent fix would have to be done in scripting or coding, I'd guess.

That is horrible to see. Is that just the China 37 scenario? I'd hate to see something like that in a full game I would just quit. I play Guadacanal a lot though and I don't see anything like that. I hope they fix that, that's just horrible buggy mess.
