I agree, and I think what sets the Jagged Alliance series apart from all the rest is the quality of the personalities of the Mercs.

Hired Guns is a fun game, and is very similar to JA. But where it falls short is the lack of unique personalities of the Mercs, and lack of the humor that was so legendary in the JA series.

Regarding JA2/Unfinished Business/Wildfire I would think on Shadow Company, Silent Storm, Brigade 7.62 and of course: Commandos. However, there is no game in this ball park which comes close to Jagged Alliance. Everything else felt just lacking.

I wouldn't disagree with that, although I did particularly like Silent Storm. Many didn't because of the (limited) sci-fi element though.

Apart from that, the only games of a similar style that ever really grabbed me are Laser Squad and Sabre Team, both ancient (as in C64!) titles. Laser Squad lives on, though, in the form of Laser Squad Nemesis; you might want to give the demo a try.

There is nothing wrong with Steam. I own over 36 titles on it and it is an AWESOME service. It is kinda like Paypal...either you get it or you dont. The only reason most people hate Paypal is because they do something stupid to screw up using it.


As for a game I am currently playing mostly Slitherine Titles. If you want a challenge pick up Field of Glory and hit up their awesome multiplayer lobby service and take on some other people. Battlefield Academy is good also.

And ARMA 2 is poorly coded garbage. Mission triggers still don't work after multiple patches and the game is unoptimized and runs poorly on my machine with an i7, 12 GB of Ram and two Geforce 295s in quad SLi

Nah just kidding... when I go for something beer & pretzels it's usually AoE3 or a Blizzard game like Starcraft, or soon to be Diablo 3 this spring (I think?) it comes out. Those are the games I usually end up getting bored with pretty quickly though.

I don't buy COMPUTER games to play against other PEOPLE, I buy COMPUTER games to play against the COMPUTER that's what computers and computer games were made for. [:)]

Take a look at 'HOMEWORLD'.  You can get it on Amazon for anywhere from 5-10 dollars.  The music score and narration is top notch.  It is an older game but very fun.
