Widescreen settings

Post by Drambuie »

Hi all,

Just got a 24' Widescreen and have managed to get AE 1920x1080 running fine - however for me it's a touch too small.

I have tried alternate lower res widescreen settings (eg. 160x1050 and others )but none seem to work, I think it is defaulting to standard setings as the same number of hexes are visible on the map.

Any ideas as to anything else I can try or why it's doing this? Don't really want to stick to defaults as icons etc are a bit big now!

I have a 24" monitor as well. Just run it 1680x1050 fullscreen mode (without the -w parameter). The game text and graphics will be larger as you desire though the quality will not be as good that of the LCD native resolution (1920x1080).

Note however that 1600x1050 is not a standard resolution. Try 1680x1050 or the game will revert to the default resolution (1024x768).

Other resolutions to try:
1024x768
1152x864
1280x768
1280x800
1280x1024
1440x900
1400x1050
1680x1050
1600x1200 (only if your monitor is 1920x1200 like mine)

Best of Luck...

Cheers,
Reg.

(One day I will learn to spell - or check before posting....)
Uh oh, Firefox has a spell checker!! What excuse can I use now!!!

You need to check your graphics card settings and see what resolutions it supports. And usually best resolution to apply for AE is the monitor's native resolution.

There should be a " in front of your command line:

"C:\Games\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1680 -py1050

Also, make sure the dashes (-) are really minus signs. I know when I copied the command line from the docs, the - was wrong. Looked OK, but was actually another character (an en dash I think). Anyway, try deleting the - and replace them with the - from the number pad (hope that makes sense). And assuming your video card supports the 1680x1050 resolution that should do it...

there is a " at the start, i just never copied it.

ive tryed what you said by usin the num pad for the minus but still nothing. ive tryed 1920x1080 which is my monitors default res and also 1680x1050 like you suggested to no avail.

ive also tryed removing the -f and also using -w.

i have an nvidia 260 card.

and yes im editing the quick start shortcut in the start menu.

anymore more ideas?

Not really. I'm using -fd instead of just the -f. the d is for daily backups I think...maybe try that. Here is what my cmd line looks like.

"C:\Games\WitP-AE\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -r -fd -px1920 -py1080

also, have you actually gone beyond the opening screens and loaded up a scenario? my opening screens are all smaller (1024x768 I think). I don't see the full screen effect until I get to an actual map....

there is an -altFont option you can add to the cmd line, to try a different font, but the size would be about the same. i'd like a bigger typeface myself....
