IJN MSWs at Koepang were spotted sweeping mines.
MSW Romney located and swept a mine field at Trimcomalee.
Dinahs over Kweiyang again during the course of the day were followed by a raid on Kweiyang that did light damage to the base, no casualties were reported.
109 X B-17E attacked Port Moresby and ran into 40 X Zero and 40 X Tony. The big bombers held their formation and the .50 cal machine guns downed 11 X Zero (18 damaged) and 4 X Tony (19 damaged) while losing 19 bombers and having another 54 damaged. Damage to the airbase was light.
The Japanese flew recon flights over Derby today.
The detection of radio transmissions at Canton Island and San Francisco are of major security concerns, especially Canton. All efforts to track down the sources will be made immediately.
The invasion TF sailed today for Tarawa. It carries the 2nd Marine Division, the 43rd Infantry Division and the 47th Engineer Regiment. The 1st Amphibious HQs are trailing and once the base falls the support units will unload as their TF is going to be close behind. Orsini stands looking at the vast array of shipping and wonders if they're going to attack Japan itself.
The Benham departs Canton Island as an escort for a replenishment TF. It's going to take a lot of fuel for all the ships that are Snowball. Benham's crew want to be part of a TF that intend to do some fighting, though Phil knows that their TF is a very juicy target and if discovered they will draw unwanted company.
The Palawan swings lazily at anchor in the shelter of Noumea. The crew have heard rumors of the Marines attacking somewhere or other, but nothing concrete. Red and Cookie discuss the possibilities of buying land here as Hawaii seems worlds away. The problem would be money as theirs is in Honolulu.
