From: RADM Sherman, CV Lexington, near Pearl Harbor
To: ADM Kimmel, Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor
Concerning: Damage Status

Sir,
We some flooding aboard the Lexington but we still can make a decent speed. Also we get more and more control over the fires. We expect to arrive back in Pearl Harbor tomorrow. As long we do not get attacked by submarines or a carrier attack, the Lexington is probably going to live.

Yes I attacked. He was attacking my convoys again and I had to teach him a lesson. Otherwise he would have troubled my convoys for months to come. Indeed the carrier battles are difficult for the Allies, but instead fighting against KB, now there were only 3 carriers (I expected two of them). That means that with two Allied CVs the total number of planes was about equal. Of coarse the JApanese planes are much better, but they were extremely close to Pearl Harbor and very far from Kwajalein. The distance to a save port would be greatly in my advantage. I may save the Lexington and Japan has to fear that two or perhaps three carriers may sink. And if they don't, all Allied submarines in the PAcific are waiting for the crippled carriers near Kwajalein. I'm claiming this first large Naval Battle won!!!!!

Edit: The Lexington did sink one hex away from Pearl Harbor. Very cruel!!!! Nevertheless I claim this battle won...

Sir,
We have been bombarded by Japanese cruisers. They are blocking the harbor of Port Moresby and consequently we had to send back a supply convoy. Several carriers and an invasion fleet has been detected by our scouts moving from the JApanese base at Rabaul due south in the Milne Bay direction. It seems an invasion of Port Moresby is due very soon. A-24 Banshee bombers have attacked the Japanese cruisers and have scored hits on the CA Aobi and CA Kinugasa. The last one seems to have sunk!!!!

Yeah I think I got a cruiser. Otherwise it is at Rabaul and heavily damaged. It will take him a while before it is patched up. Don't think I severly damaged the Nagato. It is still used for bombardements of Port Moresby. I cannot tell you a whole lot on the Carrier TFs. There are two:
- One near Palmyra which is now going towards Penrhyn Island. This is probably the next target. I have a heavy cruiser nearby, but will only attack if I exactly know where the carriers are.
- The second carrier force is near Port Moresby.

I think that the Japanese have split all their carriers in three similar size task forces. Of those three I may have put one out of action. Alternatively, the carrier force near Palmyra Atoll may be the remnants of this carrier task force.

Sir,
We have been hit by two torpedoes fired by a Japanese submarine. We have sustained significant damage and can no longer attack the Japanese invasion fleet heading towards Penrhyne island. We are going to retreat in the Suva direction. Our goal is the repair shipyard in Auckland but may have to divert to another port if damage increases to much. Currently we have a flood-damage of 70+.
