The Roundup
While pursuit moves west on Java, the enemy strikes east as well. The regiment there is shattered and retreated. Burma is contented with the same air battle aimed at attriting Allied fighter strength. Hurricanes have barely begun arriving and will not be serviceable until the end of the month. A small air ambush at Nanyang in northern China downs a few IJA bombers and fighters. Nanyang is now being moved on. Although fortifications are at level 3, the terrain makes a prolonged defense doubtful given the weakened state of the corps.

Preparations
Two squadrons of US Army dive bombers have trained too skill in the 20's in NavB. Still too green for the battle around Java but progress is rapid. While Java bleeds Palembang has been gathering forces. More than a regiment's worth so far, with air support and some engineers. Flying boats and transports have been pulling in outlying combat forces. Thay can probably gather another regiment's worth, including most of a couple of battalions from Singapore. Soerabaja, Balikpapan, and Samarinda all had meager or no damage at all to their oil and fuel production facilities. Palembang will be made as tough as possible.

The survivors of Soerabaja have succeeded in evacuating by rail to the west. Meager air attacks continue as does their lack of success.

The Roundup
Nanyang will be evacuated tomorrow. If air attacks cause any stragglers they should be out the following day. There is a large concentration of enemy units (31) seen at Balikpapan, so it seems obvious that base is being used as a staging area. What are the targets for those forces? Chinese units to the east of Sian have been pushed out of rough country and into the open. While strong enough to achieve that, the enemy forces are too weak to threaten the city. Tarakan, already invested by land, has been invaded by sea. This after undergoing naval bombardment by a monstrous battleship that surely must be the greatest in the world.

Movements
Tarakan and Nanyang fell today, Nanyang being successfully evacuated just in time. Enemy forces to the east of Sian are seen angling into the forest, so fresh corps are ordered to prepare a reception for them amongst the trees. Davao and Butuan were invaded from sea but both are abandoned. Frantic airlifts of armed men into Palembang continue around the clock. The air battle continues in the enemy's favor, a little at a time.

Progress and Regress
Movement of forces to Palembang goes well. Also, the air throughout is filled with raids but only small numbers of aircraft are downed. In what must have been a surprise to them, a group of IJA bombers attacked a lone AA unit on Timor. Try an easier target, guys! Soerabaja was totally trashed when it fell, so IJ is still filling craters in the runway. When they finish I predict trouble. The ships attacked by the wolfpack off of San Francisco in the last two days. One xAK lost, another hit by deck guns, and an xAP with heavy damage making for SF as I write this. We need escorts!!!

Equatorial Subs
A small xAP was sunk near Colombo.

Whacked at Wenchow
AN IJA attack at Wenchow failed to penetrate any fortifications, caused wounds needing only band-aids, and was soundly repulsed with heavy enemy casualties.

Cagayan Culling
Philippine forces at Cagayan were attacked and pushed back to the mountains, save for a rear-guard battalion. That unit's future looks grim. The setback followed repeated naval bombardments and air attacks.

Air Java
Night bombing of Batavia has been ongoing for perhaps a week, but British night fighters are effective in blunting the attacks. Meanwhile UK and Dutch air forces on Java spend themselves for little effect. Although, enemy ships do remain at range rather than closing on and assaulting Batavia directly.

China
Rumors are leaking out of the woods north of Nanyang of a large, desperate battle resulting in massive casualties for the Chinese. In the south, the city of Kanshien is under siege with additional IJA units approaching.

Burma
The air war continues to take a small toll every day on the Allied air forces, leaving them in low spirits. The enemy ground units outside of Pegu are now seen advancing on the city. dispositions are being adjusted to cope with this threat.

Java
The Japanese juggernaut is slowly moving across central Java, gobbling up abandoned bases. On eastern Java the last effective combat unit has been wiped out.

Sub Wars
A large tanker was taken down off of Perth. Even empty she fell to just one torpedo.

The Dark Woods
An IJA attack in those bloody woods north of Nanyang batters both sides and hopefully will dampen invader enthusiasm. There are reinforcements seen to be on the way, however.

Whack 'em at Wenchow
Again the enemy attacks at Wenchow and again they are bloodied with hardly a notice for our boys. Nothing to show for their trouble.

Burma
An enemy armored unit crossed into Pegu alone today. Although casualties were non-existent, the first line of fortifications was run over by the steel beasts.

Carrier Sighting?
An aircraft carrier of undetermined size has been sighted perhaps crossing into the Indian Ocean about 300 miles west of Timor.

Pegu Pummeled!
Pegu in lower Burma was lost today in a startling collapse as additional enemy forces crossed the river. Rangoon is being evacuated as a defense is no longer possible there.

Nanyang Woods
Another, this time more deliberate attack on Chinese forces north of Nanyang results in hefty casualties on both sides, but worse on the enemy. The forces making a fighting retreat will be met by reinforcements on the road if they can just move one more grid hex.

Palembang Prepares
So far a light division's worth of assault value has been amassed at Palembang and more is arriving daily. Fortification is slow as engineers are scarce.

Mindinao Mashed
Mindinao is now feeling the weight of four enemy landings. Defensive forces are concentrated in the mountains in the middle of the island.

Batavia Blasted
Batavia was the recipient of a large and very effective land based air attack toady. Obviously the IJA has gotten enough bases operational. Unfortunately friendly fighter strength has already been nearly wiped out.

Singapore Shines
A few enemy units crossed the river into Singapore and were roughly treated, being that they were, after all, uninvited. One or more of the units are seen to be now moving back across the river, and the massive host still on the other side shows no sign of moving. Is this a ploy to get the defenders of Singapore to attack just as overwhelming reinforcements arrive? That happened at Nanyang and cost more than 11,000 casualties. The defenders watch.

Koepang Krushed
Invasion! The KB has taken up station a few dozen miles off Timor after blasting Koepang aerodrome in the morning. A heavy surface force then plastered the area again, and finally troops began landing. Many units are identified, and already the invaders outnumber the defenders heavily. Expect Koepang to fall tomorrow. Base forces and defense garrisons from the eastern DEI were on the move into Koepang to support it as a base to attack enemy shipping. Those plans are dashed. The Deep Woods
Only one unit failed to advance deeper into the woods away from Nanyang. That unit was attacked and retreated at heavy odds. As fate would have it, two enemy units pursued and at least one (or perhaps both) of them is now facing all of the forces that moved through Nanyang - plus about 1,200 fresh AS brought in as reinforcements. The main body of enemy units which attacked cannot arrive in time, so a shock attack is ordered tomorrow to crush the overconfident ones.

Koepang
It fell. The US Army dive bomber pilots' training is progressing nicely. They could probably hit a few ships now. All dressed up with no place to go.

Burma
Almost all units from Rangoon are now in the jungle, and the last one will be tomorrow. At this point we cross our fingers that Prome will not fall to enemy paratroopers and lengthen the journey.

The War Down Under
No, the other Down Under. A sub took an AVP passing by Brisbane today. This was the first sighting of an enemy sub off the east coast of Australia. Now the little beasties have been sighted off the US west coast, in the DEI, off the west coast of Australia, off the east coast of Australia, and near Colombo. They've scored in all of those places, too.

The Woods
That IJA unit or two disappeared. It must have been a fast moving unit that used the main road in movement mode.

Burma
The fighting retreat continues with the rearguard being pushed back from their position that had cut off Pegu from the rest of the Empire.

DEI
Batavia pummeled from the air again. Koepang now operating enemy aircraft although still badly damaged. Probably search aircraft? Palembang pours on the coal, er, av gas, pulling in combat troops like crazy. More than 400 AS now. KB has vanished, now that huge gaps have opened up in our search coverage.

China Chills
Kukong is threatened in the south. In fact, it's untenable so it's being evacuated to preserve the fighting ability of the forces there. Other units are being moved to shore up a new defensive line. The dark days are coming as the Burma road is presumably closed with the fall of Pegu.

Clark airfield was the scene of an enemy probing attack. The results were good enough:

KB Klubbed
The KB popped up back in the Java Sea, conducting fighter sweeps against Batavia. Before the sun rose, however, KXVIII traded 4 depth charge hits for the honor of placing a torpedo amidst Soryu's plates. Soryu has appeared on the Sunk Ships list, but no appropriate a/c ground losses. Soryu certainly lives, but must regret the TF navigator's decision.

Palembang Prepares
Up to 418 AS and climbing, Palembang is a vacuum cleaner canister fed by hoses made of airplanes.

Dutch Delight
Grid reference 54,101 was the scene of a fierce battle by the most effective means of resistance yet found in the DEI - Dutch submarines. It is unclear whether these actions fended off a new enemy invasion or interrupted their buildup in established bases. In four distinct actions three different Dutch boats made their presence known, torpedoing two enemy ships and definitely sinking one. Enemy land units carried aboard were seen taking to the water.

The Roundup
Rangoon falls, or, really, empty Rangoon is occupied. There are enemy TF's moving westward along northern Java. This might be invasion that seemed to be repulsed yesterday. All over Free Java enemy LBA and KB raids marked the day. Meanwhile, Palembang continues bringing in anyone and everyone with a rifle and who can be scooped up by air. More than a full division's worth of AS now and no end in sight to the airlift. Kukong is devoid of friendly forces and the enemy has arrived. It will fall tomorrow, and the combat forces are making a stand in the woods+rough terrain along the main road to the north. They must hold long enough for other forces to arrive at rearward cities.

Java Jumble
Merak is invaded. So far observers in the hills above the beaches have identified an army HQ, 4 brigades and 3 battalions. PT flotillas set out east from Batavia, but all were intercepted at sea by a powerful SCTF. Batavia, Bandoeng, and Tjilatjap all received the enemy's earnest air treatment, both LBA and carrier borne. Two carrier formations were identified, one north and west of Batavia standing off to avoid revealed sub deployments. The other was at Soerabaja and might contain the damaged carrier Soryu. There is no current land advance seen coming from the eastern end of Java.

Kukong fell as expected. The Burma Boogie continues without interference. Darwin was hit by LBA today. Damage was very light, but the lack of fighters dictated that all but search aircraft be pulled out to preserve them for strike opportunities.

Java Jeopardy
Merak fell today, as did a Dutch sub bravely entering a port to attack IJN ships. Identified in Merak on this date are 9 regiments, an army HQ, and a recon regiment. 30,000 troops are bearing down on Batavia, fortification level 2 and 20,000 troops woefully trained. All 3 major airfields on Java continue to suffer attacks.

The Roundup
Palembang nears 500 AS and feels no wrath from the carriers that entered Merak to fly cover for the invasion forces there. The Burma retreat continues unmolested, with even the rear guard receiving no attacks from the superior forces that have localized them in the jungle. Port Darwin was attacked, sinking both coastal minesweepers on duty there. Air raids also fell on Singapore and various bases on Luzon and in China. IJN submarines were contacted off the tip of India, the SE tip of Australia, and a few hundred miles off of San Francisco.

Liberating Luzon
In a stunning development the War Dept. announced today that Luzon is on the verge of being liberated. The famed Lost Battalion has completed cutting the supply route to enemy forces occupying Iba and investing Clark Field. The press release says "Now that the enemy is cut off, we expect them to surrender within a matter of days or face oblivion." See War Dept. map below.

Yesterday's News
Sources have confirmed that yesterday off of Merak two ships were torpedoed and others damaged during attacks by Allied joint forces motor torpedo boats. Several boats were lost, many damaged, and the survivors are en route to Singapore.

Luzon Lingers
Lingayen was indeed captured by the Lost Battalion, but at virtually the same time Cabanatuan was again wrestled out of Allied hands. In an odd battle of the starving, two out of supply IJN units attacked an out of supply PA division. Air attacks may have played a major role in the defeat.

Java Update
Batavia is bracing for the inevitable ground assault even as furious air attacks again pounded all major Javanese airfields. Aircraft from Batavia have been relocated, some finding the as yet peaceful haven of Kalidjati a couple of hours drive up the beautiful northern coast road.

Mindinao Malaybalay Delay?
The main resistance on Mindinao now is besieged in the mountain redoubt of Malabalay, where several PA units hope to delay the enemy as long as possible.

Singapore Invested!
Large enemy forces moved to surround the defenses at Singapore today. In response Percival has issued a memorandum to all units in Singapore to begin considering defensive plans.

Sub Wars
Fierce battles raged in the waters around Java, resulting in modest damage to Dutch boats but no successes against the invaders. An ocean away a PC was sunk two hundred miles from San Francisco while hunting an I-boat.

Clark Probed Again
Enemy forces at Clark Field again attacked to test Allied defenses and were thrown back. Worryingly, they achieved 1 to 1 odds and caused more casualties than they suffered. In a strange twist there is an unconfirmed report that an enemy unit was utterly destroyed during the attack. The commander's report of the action follows.

The Roundup
The Empire picked off Sorong. Hopefully their fighter pilots begin wearing them and shiver uncontrollably at high altitude. Java, Singapore, Luzon, Burma, and China saw the familiar round of air attacks. Subs are being hunted off the US west coast, but in turn are using aircraft to do their own hunting. An enemy force of small carriers yesterday decided it was safer in the Indian Ocean south of Java than in the sub-infested waters of the Java Sea. They are being hunted.
