System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException

Post by trew »

Just bought game. Downloaded it and installed it without difficulty. Had it check and update .NET and DirectX. Then downloaded patch and installed without difficulty. Problem is I still haven't been able to play [&:]

Each time I click Play Distant Worlds and it does it's speel with messages while loading the load ends when I get a "Unhandled Exception" with a long message relating to a systemreflection bug.

Can anyone help?

I just came here to post about the same issue and mentioning WMP has reminded me that I removed WMP from my PC so that is what is causing the issue. I had the game running fine before and just installed 1.04 patch so figured the patch was cauing it but realize now that it is because I removed WMP. You know, having WMP as a requirement to run the game is not cool. For one thing, the EU forced Microsoft to un-bundle it from Win7 in Europe so in essence they are breaking EU consumer law by making it a requirement to run the game. Does the game just need a certain codec that is in WMP or does it need the actual WMP program? I would rather just install a codec pack than re-install WMP.

Hi
I posted in another thread, but get no response. Maybe the name of the tread turns people off?
So I try again...
I bought DW a few days ago, and have spent more then 1.5 workday to get it working...
I am a total Geek, so I had to "solve" the problem befor coming here to cry :-)
So here is my problem;
I am running W7 - 64bit
I get the same error as "Jesus..." when trying to start the game. DW 1.06
"System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation,"
I think that is allso what "Trew" had...
I have un/reistalled the game, removed wmp and reinstalled that, removed all .net inst and reinstalled. - all with no changes in the result.
Now, i have finally gotten it to work. I managed to get a DW 1.049. That version runs without any problems!
I really LOVE this game, but would like to patch it... problem is that patching it to 1.06 will make the game unstartable...
PLEASE HELP! [&:]

Posting to say I have the same problem, I hope its not because I need WMP to use this, but posting a image of the error window because it is HELLA large.

It is the same problem...
You get it when you start the game, right?
And there are no way to start the game?
I found no solution. But using an early version, 1.049 (full of bugs) it works.

I really love this game. But I would have thought twice before buying it if I had known how much time it would take to get it to work. (And still i have not played the game i bought, DW 1.6)
Maybe I am missing something, but are there really no people working with support for the game?

Lostweb, do you have Windows Media Player 11/12 installed on your computer? If it is installed, have you checked to make sure it is the latest version?

Take a look in your

Distant Worlds\Movie  - Make sure there are 3 files there named  code Force Intro - Distant Worlds Intro - MatrixIntro

If all of them are there, do they play WITH sound in your Win Media Player?

For some wierd reason i no longer get the error...
I have been playing DW 1.049 for weeks now, dodging errormessages and errors, but loving the game!
Today i was going to spend some time, complaining on this forum :-)
So i reinstalled 1.06 in "C:\Matrix Games\DW", but I have not removed the old install of DW 1.049 in the default "C:\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds".
And now everything works!!!
I am so happy! I think I will take the rest of the day off from work :-)

@ Snowpeople1
I have looked in the \movies folder, and in DW 1.049 all files are ok. But in 1.06 the file "DistantWorldsIntro.wmv" is not.
I will not mess with it, as it does work now, but this information may be useful to others with problems...

Now, bring on the expansion! Life is good!!! [8D]
