buy on release?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Tomorrow at 1400 Eastern Time (1900 in London) should be the time (according to Erik in another post). Drooling, drooling, drooling. Credit card leaping out of the wallet.

That makes it 2000 my time.....
So....Back from work around 1500, time to grab some sleep, download, gaming through the night, show up at work Wednesday morning absolutely knackered.....
Repeat as needed through the week. [:D]

Buy on release.
That's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

It is 2000 my time here as well if things work out tonight... I am actually working at that time, but since most of my work is done from at home in front of my computer I am seriously planning to get some WitE time fitted in, should today really be the day...

Im one of those who will be buying as soon as Im aware it has been released. The AARs indicate that its been through plenty of development. Wanna just get lost in the immensity of the whole thing, imagining that I will be absorbed for as long as I can get free time...Will there be a thread.."I just bought it"..?

I will await comments.....don't think I saw some one play the Russians against the German AI in an AAR....it went from Alpha to done very quickly and many of the AAR's where multi player...obviously alot more would have gone on behind the scenes but why not more Player vs AI AAR's?

They (the developers) have said that the German 41 AI is the weakest one, due to the complexity of completing large encirclements. The AI needs some help in the 41 scenario to be challenging to a competent Soviet human player.

Myself I have full trust in Gary - the support for his titles has always been excellent, and they tend to work well at launch.

Oh, is the AI moddable a la Civ 4, or is that an hardcoded element?

I have played as Russian against German AI in the 1941 many times during Alpha/Beta.

For this to work the best some sort of adequate advantage is needed and this is exactly where one can change the game options (i.e. give, for example, 110% to assist the AI)!

The AI that would be grandmaster in such complex situation as is Barbarossa 1941 is impossible to ask for but, IMHO, AI is good and apt to task.

The biggest challenge, of course, will be against competent PBEM player but AI will give good playing time of hundreads of hours as well!

Also, pleas enote that the AI uses some scripted elements for scenario start (for example Barbarossa 1-2 turns) but after that it flexibly adjust to situation - it defends, it attacks and it probes for your weakness - don't expect to "steamroll" the AI in easy and leisure fashion! [;)]

BTW, the AI vs. AI games that I and other run showed remarkable resemblance to history of WWII Eastern front!

Wouldn't think so.
Everyone in this thread will be too busy playing to have time to post. [;)]

Unfortunately for me, the Christmas budget has already been reached, otherwise it would be a release day purchase. The only worry I have is no WEGO... I think I'm spoiled by WitP/WitP AE. Although it is probably not necessary to have that in this title.

I can't wait to get a pbem game going with this system.
