My "dinosaur" laptop has a 64MB video card. I read the system requirements are higher.

Question: Can my computer handle the game even at the lowest graphic setting?

I am afraid you don't meet the minimal requirements... the graphics card should support DX...

BTW, what exactly is the laptop in question (make, model, CPU, RAM)?

But I'm thinking I need a more powerful rig anyway.

Off the top of my head, I have a 5/6 year old Gateway with 1064 MB RAM, 1.2 Ghz Athlon processor, 64MB ATI video card.

Off the top of my head, I have a 5/6 year old Gateway with 1064 MB RAM, 1.2 Ghz Athlon processor, 64MB ATI video card.

I did test WitE during development on my 5+ years old IMB ThinkPad notebooks (512 MB RAM, on board Intel graphics - 128 MB shared memory) - it did work but it was slow...
