Erik - buy game as a gift options please?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Erik - buy game as a gift options please?

Post by MajorDude »

Dear Erik,

I have a question that I was told Erik may have a good answer for. I looked in the store faqs but could find nothing.

Can we purchase this, or other Maitrix games, as a gift for someone else (similar to what you can do with steam)?

If so, does it show our email address or does it show more information (steam only shows your email address, which is safer and more convenient in the internet world of today)?

I am interested in getting some Maitrix games as gifts, but I only want the email address to show (for securtity reasons). Is this possible, and how does it work?

Thanks for your help! [:)]

Giving the physical copy as a gift is quite easy, do you mean the download version?

Yes, the download version. I thought I was clear in my questions, sorry... [&:]

Unfortunately, the only thing the boxed version usually gives is a disk, some cardboard, and a slip cover for the plastic container...

Erik, if you can answer the questions below, it would be helpful:

So, could you, or one of your Maitrix elves find an answer to this, please?

Thank you.

Hi MajorDude,

The box cover also includes the printed manual, but with that said, yes you can give the download as a gift. What I would do is place the order, download the file and burn it to a CD along with the serial number and present that to the lucky person. If that's not an option, send them the e-mail with the download link and serial number and they can download and install it themselves. Once downloaded, they can make a backup of the installer file and serial number.

Regards,

- Erik

Sounds good, I guess. In other words, I would purchase it as if for myself, but then transfer the dl link and serial #, and inform the recipient they need to backup the installer file and sn, correct?

It would be nice if we had the option (as steam does - I don't really like steam that much, but at least they have that aspect of the business down pat) to buy a Maitrix game title as a gift named by the recipient's email - it works quite well.

Thanks Erik! [8D]

Agreed, that is on our wish list for the new store, along with gift certificates.

I solved the problem using non-technical means [:D].

I sent my son an email telling him to order the game and I would give him an envelope with cash in it under the Christmas tree. [:)]

I've sent links to a couple of the other Matrix games using "giftconspiracy.com". Maybe I'll find out how well that works. (for gifting games I mean). But for WiTE I'm thinking I'll just let my wife know what she's getting me for Christmas and order it myself (just to avoid any chance of it not being able to be downloaded).

Thanks

Great! How soon might this happen? [:)]

I looked into your recommendation, but it would still seem to be sending a lot of personal information I would rather not send to the other party. I believe it would actually give the other person access to "my" account and account information, which I am not really comfortable with. Maybe I misunderstood, but I am looking for a way to just purchase the game as a gift and send it with only my email address and personal message showing, nothing else.

Steam works this way, and I have used it on several occasions already. I don't mean to bother you with this, but I was trying to find a way to do this while your holiday sale is on. [:(]

Maybe a billing angel will appear on high soon bearing wondrous news for your store site. There is a rumor of 3 wise billing programmer men travelling to you from afar. May the stars speed their steps and hurry their arrival!

I guess no reply in 2 days might not be a good sign of them being able to "spruce" up the store in time for the holiday season... [:(]

Oh, well, you can't say I didn't try...

Hi MajorDude,

Sorry, not this year but I expect we'll have gift certificates and gift options setup next year, well before the next holiday season. In the meantime, why not use a physical copy for thegift?

MajoDude,

you just create a new account for the lucky person [:)], and buy trough the paypal option. Send him login info.
Problem solved.
