Hello from s newbie

Post by Trekkie »

Hi! As I am new to this forum, I want to say hello and introduce myself. I am 29, with my wife and daughter we are currently living in a small town near Prague. I am interested in science (which is also my job), history (with focus on WWII), Star Trek [;)] etc. I have some experience with original WitP and now I start my first AE campaign (Allied vs. AI - I know it is probably not most challenging combination but who cares, allies are my side and I am not sure that I can find enough time to play regular PBEM. So, hello once again and I am looking forward to spend some time in this forum which seems very helpful and very friendly!

Welcome. Allies vs the AI will offer plenty of challenge. Particularly if the first time you do it. Just a bit of advice. Get your tankers out of harms way early. Always escort them. You won't have enough of anything for a while, but tankers are he most scarce. Losing a bunch will really hurt. 2nd, start training pilots from the beginning.. Plenty of threads around about it, you need to learn how to do it.

Thanks for a welcome. Pilot training is a thing which causes me a headache, I can´t say I really understand it at this time so I will have to do some study.

Hi Trekkie. You may like to know, my uncle Vaclav Bergman, was commanding officer of 313 squadron towards the end of ww2. Previously in 310 squadron during Battle of Britain and after.

Hi Pennine. Deep respect for your uncle and many thanks for what he did. In the US, they call WW2 generation "The Greatest Generation". In our country, we call greatest those who escaped occupied Czechoslovakia and joined the allied campaign in foreign armies. They are true heroes of my country and its modern history!

Welcome to both of you , and anyone else who joins in later on [;)]

If your new then i would reccomend terying the GC after a few scenarios to get you used to the interface etc. then read a few AAR's to get a feel fo what to do, as opening up the GC can be a very daunting prospect even for witP players.

Most of all though , enjoy the game and if stuck just ask here , most folks are helpful to some degree or another [;)].
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Welcome to all.  A lot of things take some getting used to in the game, pilot training being one of them.  Can't tell you how many times I have restarted just because I didn't plan to finish a game but rather wanted to get a better handle on the game.

Restarting a game is common practice for learning, it took me a few restarts before getting a nice grip on the Japanese production and industrial system. Finally in 6/42 and still going nicely! :)

Welcome Guys. Always good to see some new names on the forum.

My advice: if playing Allies vs AI i would encourage NOT restarting - if you figure out the 'perfect' first turn the game will actually be less fun later on. In real life the Allies made plenty of major errors in the early days of the Pacific war, many of which we can avoid because we know history. Even if you lose most of your carriers early you will bounce back, just enjoy the ride.

And as the others have said, if you have questions, just ask. Nearly always someone around who is willing to help out.

Welcome to the newbies!

As many have said in the past here, you'll spend a lot of time (and away from the family) scratching, plunging, beating the table, banging your head, etc. playing WitP AE. And you'll love every minute of it!

The forum is a great place. All questions allowed and usually answered.
So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(
