need for bigger tutorial

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

need for bigger tutorial

Post by henri51 »

This has probably been said before, but here goes...

The tutorial is OK for a few of the basics, but a game of this complexity cries out for a more detailed tutorial addressing the many aspects of this game.At least the game has an excellent manual, although I have not read ALL of it this far (and have not played anything except the tutorial).

Some people have already started to post tutorials on specific parts of the game like the first move, but "newbies" like me (who have only played simple games like HOI I,II, III, WITP, Command Ops, COEAW, Advanced Tactics, EU I,II,III, etc) are somewhat overwhelmed by the size and complexity of the game.

When I start games like this one, I tend to look at the map and my mind boggles, so I rarely get to play a move - I never got through more than a half-dozen moves in WITP.

I agree, the tutorial is useful, however considering the size of the game the the tutorial is a little small. It explains movement and battle well enough, but anyone whose as experienced any sort of computer war game will pickup the movement and combat thingys quickly, It the move subtle issues in this game that a better explanation.

Agree with you guys, as newbie to the series who has not played WiTP, i'm still scared of starting a campaign as while the tutorial teaches you some basics about movement and so, it doesn't explain any of the deep features needed to play a full campaign or long scenario where production etc is needed.

Hopefully we will be able to use some of the AARs as tutorials replaying them step by step if they are detailed enough and written in "newbie language".

Maybe someone will place a you tube tutorial online.  This is one game that will require many looks at the manual.  Lets start a xfire channel, look me up demyansk
