ok bare with me, i am alittle hardheaded and not the smartest. after not reading the manual because i dont do manuals, i played the tutorial and mastered that one with a major victory. Minsk next , Captured Minsk on D3, didnt use air because i dont read and didnt think i needed it anyway. i manage to kill just about everything in sight and was rewarded with a minor defeat. ARG!! ok now i am pissed . Figure i need to learn some air so i found a thread on air and now i am good to go on that part. On to Smolensk, T1 i got to try out my new toy BOMBING AIRFIELDS!! yeppie i killed alot of commie aircraft and had a good T1. On to T2 , Captured Minsk. WOW now i am cooking with gas. This is the screen of T2, i have just moved some reinforcments north by RR to help guard my north area. So far so good.

T 4 OK . i guess i will learn about getting across a river now.........overall making good progress , just about have cleaned up all the units trap in the Minsk area. CHARGE!!!

What I wanted to say is, thanks for the AAR, I'm on the edge of buying WitE, the thing you gotta do is read AAR's like yours.  Sort of... foreplay if you will. Hmm, maybe I'll buy it tonight.

The game is a very good game, but if you are into the east front ww2 era stuff, then this is a must have. I have been waiting for exactly something like this. Tillers games are good too, but this game is so easy to play and kind of has the Panzer General thing about doing well and moving to the next phase and getting the victory movie at the end. I am enjoying the heck outta this game and cant wait to play against a human in multiplay. Right now i am trying to cross a major river in the south to envelope Smolensk. Really fun. Buy the game so we can play.[;)]

OK, T5: i got 1 unit across the S bridge this turn and my main center force is approaching West Smolensk area and there are a ton of troops that i must smash with my center forces. My plan is to take my light blue forces in the S , cross the bridge and flank S of smolensk while my main center force hits the horde head on. i am also keeping an eye on my N area just in case those commies try and sneak something through there.

I got 2 armor and 1 mech force now across S bridge but they are out of fuel and RED which i know is bad. plenty of bullets just need some gas. i dont think i am going to try to cross the center bridge, instead i am going to slant N and shove my fist straight through to Smolensk. Wish me luck next turn could be bloody.

Yes, i see, my 3 units are out of fuel and i guess i must fight like heck to get them into supply. love it, there is a wrinkle around every corner or over every bridge in this case[:'(]

OK T7, i will try and give a little more detail as to what i am trying to do and what the screens look like. My main concern at this point is my 2 armor units and 1 mot unit across south bridge with little fuel. they are now at 6-8% which is better then 0-2% which they where at the end of T6, so some fuel has gotten through, my plan is the get some breathing room across the bridge then head N to clear the other bridge and also clear a path along the rail lines there. This screen shot shows the situation as it sits and what i plan to do. Wish me luck.

You did very similar to my last game.  You took Vitebsk and I took Gomel is the difference.

I think my next strategy is to really concentrate in the land going to Vitebsk and Smolensk, because I concentrated a lot on Gomel and it was not worth it.

You will see in the AAR in Armchair General where Flavio kicked my ASS that the "swing for the win" is to get Mogilev, Gomel, Vitebsk, Smolensk plus one from Velikiye Luki, Rzhev or Bryansk.

I chose the wrong route and tried to take VL head on and got stuck in the swamps. I think the better option is to hammer through Vitebsk toward Rzhev and swing behind VL or indeed go for Rzhev. Make the defender defend both and keep him off guard.

"Kicking ass" is really rather overstating it, Bob. Was as bare of a marginal victory as it gets, I got 1.1:1 VPs by the hair of my chinny chin chin.

As a matter of fact, if you had been able to grab one more objective, any objective, that would have swung the balance over to a German marginal or just shy of it. I checked the math after doing the AAR.

Was a tight game.
