Replay function for the SU

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Replay function for the SU

Post by sepanski »

I just started a PBEM as the SU but can not find a replay function. Is there one and if so, where do I find it?

No replay function. All the TOAW players in the test team requested the feature be added, but I don't think Joel and Gary have played TOAW! It is being "looked at".

You can get a lot of information from the Combat reports and looking at the pattern of attacks, but the recon you do during your turn is probably the best way of getting information about what the enemy is doing.

It's only a Game

No replay?

So this thing really is skewed to AI play only?

I think I just lost any possible interest.......

Perhaps the AE team can work on this one.

Personally, I found the battle reports you see on the map at the start of your turn to be pretty darn informative.

Pratzen: with F11 view on, and the information you get from the CR screen, the information you get is in some ways better than with a replay feature. You can see what your opponent has done, and what it did to your forces, but you don't see the opponents turn being played again like in many replay features.

It is informative, but unless one has a photographic memory,it is hard to figure out what happened. For example, after one enemy move in the Smolensk scenario, I saw in the losses list that I had lost a Panzer division and a Panzer Corps HQ. I have no idea how and where that happened. There was no icon of combat except for enemy bombing, so I assume that I had lost them to bombings, but I am not sure, and since I can't remember where each unit was at the end of my turn, I have no idea either on how I should adjust my dispositions to take into account the lost units; for all I know I might now have some former subunits of that HQ that are out of supply, or maybe they were shifted to another HQ...

In another case I described in another thread, some units forming a pocket had disappeared, and I surmised that they had been withdrawn. But if they had not been forming a pocket, I probably would not have noticed their disappearance, whereas in a replay I should see them disappearing.

So with all due respect to you guys and this great game, I am not convinced that the lack of a replay feature is not a backward step.

Hum, the show battles is very informative. Losing units to air attacks doesn't happen. So Im really not sure how you streached your forces out to where you don't have a clue what happened...I'm sure the F11 will tell you what happened to your forces...
